I am not the most technologically advanced person only found out about this recently. I'm looking to find out is this program available with Windows 10. Upon purchase, or is it something you buy separately? Please don't make fun of what I'm going to say next! I've been looking at those little air freshener assistant gizmos and assume this would be the same thing. Every place I asked about getting one of those home assistant devices. The staff were completely useless. Despite the fact the couple questions I have were extremely basic. I wanted to know if I needed a smart phone or up-to-date computer in order to use one of those home assistance. None of the stores could answer that question, which I figured was pretty straightforward. I'm guessing this program can be used for reading text which is one of the jobs I was interested in using something like this. I do a lot of stuff using DragonDictate and admittedly, this looks like it might be just as handy. I'm still using windows XP on a ruggedized military laptop Erie it admittedly, I've got much newer machines that run Windows 10 and never got around to learning the operating system. I keep getting fairly new machines where people throw them out because of spyware issues and frankly been too busy to reinstall an operating system other problem I've been having is trying to get a physical copy of Windows 10 because I'm a do-it-yourself kind of person. I keep being told you downloaded from the Internet which I don't exactly like I would rather have it on a physical disk like with Windows XP.

Ok, just starting to try to learn Cortana and she is driving me crazy!! LOL I have the calender that comes with windows 10 and can manually set appointments on it BUT when I ask Cortana to set up an appointment she tells me, Lets get a calender set up for you, choose one that you would like and I don't understand why Cortana doesn't just automatically use the calender on windows 10 or how to choose it when it's already there? I'm going to keep posting this out there until someone helps me with this.

Just tried many of the proposed commands in German. Turns out, Cortana is as dumb as Siri. You can ask for date, time, weather and it does recognize some hardcoded questions. But anything else - including many of the questions that work in English - just open a Bing search. But at least the (non-contextual) speech recognition is mature; Most bing searches are written correct. As of today, Cortana and Siri are little more than fancy alternative keyboards :(

so I'm scouring the internet trying to find an answer to this and maybe you know... is Cortana supposed to respond to just Cortana as opposed to hey Cortana because It didn't do this yesterday, its my second day with her. and unrelated but the only thing that my computer autocorrects is the word Cortana.... she also doesn't notify me of anything incoming from my phone even though everything is linked and synced.

That was entertaining thanks....I just started using cortana for speech recognition using word. is there a way while in word creating a document with her that i can turn on the icon on taskbar ask her a definition and instead of answering or while she is answering i can get speech recognition to type the definition out in word? they both work at same time but dont seem to connect together thanks in advance ken

The timer is useful. The weather is too. Maybe a few other functions. My Cortana only works about half the time by saying hey cortana. The translator would be nice if it could take my speech and translate it, not make me type it in. My Mexican friend says the name Jeremy is said as Hair -a-me-es. Cortana says it sounds the same in Spanish as in English.

Came here looking to see if the music commands were still part of the set. Whenever I try to get Cortana to play music or play insert artist/album/song here she just searches my command in Bing. She's not even trying. Nothing concrete such as couldn't play music or can't find music , she just denies the existence of the play music commands! >:O

ask her important questions like, what is this unwanted crap running on my computer I don't need? Or why can't you run my video games longer then 4 months before they start messing up? Or make it more challenging and type it in without getting sent to crappy bing.com

Cortana is very basic, all it does is refer you to bing even when you want to make changes to your computer, off we go to bing again! This video is too basic and could have been cut down to less than 5 minutes due to the fact cortana is just a voice command for bing.

It's so depressing how far behind Amazon, Microsoft are with voice control. Is anyone able to control Audible with Cortana? (besides just opening it), I've seen a few places online say it can but none expand on that and explain how.
