-gogoparrot BFI? BMI? Body fat percentage? I googled bfi but nothing came up. A good place to start is of course athleanx, but most typically start out with rippetoe's or starting strength. Rippetoes, from memory, is squats/bench/deadlift/dips one day, skip a day, squats/mil press/rows/p. cleans/chinups, skip, and back to the beginning. Starting strength is similar i think.
You'll wanna add 5 lbs or less each week or so till u cant lift anymore, then reset a bit, and repeat the program.

Another awesome video Jeff. When I was in the Marines, they allowed kipping (imagine doing the worm up the bar. It was embarrassing to see someone that could barely do three (minimum requirement) be able to do twenty -(maximum requirement) doing this motion. Although I couldn't do 20 strict, I had more pride doing 15 strict, I believe that the Marines (like the Army) have also updated the PFT (Physical Fitness Test) to reflect a more realistic requirement. Semper Fidelis!

-JtcGuitarist- What your recruiter means is that moves like side crunches and Saxon bends will thicken the waist if overdone. What you want to do is ab moves that involve more of a -twisting- motion like wood choppers. Twisting moves will give you the -V- taper that so many of us are after. Also when working your core, make sure you keep your Transverse abs squeezed! (aka- the muscles you squeeze when pushin out a deuce! Just don't crap your pants) Good luck soldier. Hooah!

Functional training is nothing new & has been around for years. Physio's teach it & have done for yonks & if the US army are only getting to grips with it now - dont show well for them. Also what you talk about is CROSS -TRAINING - again, nothing new. Again, why do you need to go in a straight line? Functional? So all escape routes, safe options are gona be in a straight line? Specificity! workouts should not be generic!

For years buddies in my unit and me have been talking about how redundant the old army pt test is because all the 2min p. ups, 2min s. ups, and the 2 mile run do nothing to help in the actual battle happening today. I'm happy that they are finally changing and adapting to the fact that the old test did nothing that applied to battle

Just wondering, if you added the excerizes that combine the core, upper body, and lower body while still doing leg extensions, isn't that a bonus? I mean the leg extensions do strengthen the leg just not in every way, so if we added the uneven lunge to the leg extensions, wouldn't that be twice the workout? Making it even better?

Jeff your methods are proven by the results. I'm a fairly dedicated (I say fairly because I have my weeks) Athlean-X soldier and people always ask me what sport I'm training for when I'm done working out at the gym. and these lunges are going to hurt like hell later but it's all worth it in the end.

I have a question, Im working on joining the army and my recruiter said to just run only and no core workouts cause it make peoples waste wider when there taped. I feel as tho I should do more than running and pushups. Should I do core workouts?

-edward2868 You could do that, but the important thing to remember is that you'd be challenging your stability by using offsetting weights, which would translate to more functional strength - so that'd be more effective in my opinion.

As a US Army soldier, I can tell that this is a bad idea and that alot of people are going to have a hard time passing it, intentionally setting us up for failure so that they can kick us out of the army since it's over populated.
