hi! thanks for the video.
I agree 100% higher intensity training is more efficient in terms of fat loss vs lower intensity.
one thing many online trainers seems to overlook is that while hiit training and the like is very efficient, many people are not able to do it. I have been training many years, mostly combat sports. I had a long break and I started again 7 months ago. I am getting back on track slowly but surely. at 41 with multiple injuries, there is no way I 'm going to do high intensity cardio without getting hurt. i tried intermittent sprints, I pulled my harmstring muscle = 6 weeks off. If I try to go over 80% of my max i'll last 3 days and then get overtrained. muscle wise, I could lift twice as much what I'm lifting nowadays, but if I do so my wrists knees etc will hurt for days. I'm not saying your wrong but my point is that it's not for everyone. same with the psychological aspect of high intensity training vs lower. If you are up for it and physically ok then sure go head on by all means but if you're overweight older outta shape, I reckon that easy steady does the trick. you mentioned looking at the long term, sure 20mins 139 cal from fat is better, but if you last 3 weeks and you quit because you don't manage either physically or psychologically then what's the point? I will burn more fat in a year doing 30 minutes cardio daily at medium pace than doing 4x a week at high intensity followed by a week off because I'm injured or because I couldn't mentally -take it-. if you're younger fitter and driven good advices indeed. if you're overweight older or new to fitness, I'm not so sure.
commitment is the key to success. does it really matter if you reach your fitness goals 6 months later than a guy able to make the changes in 3?
just a thought.

Hey Jeff,
I have a question:
So my dad really wants to lose weight, me, being the daredevil that I am, I don-t really care if I fall and get hurt anymore. But I want an aesthetic body: big arms, abs, a full chest. So my dad really likes that I-m going to the gym more now. But he likes it because it allows him to do some -cardio- and he walks on the treadmill for about 40 minutes to an hour. I-ve been trying to get him to do something different, just change it up every now and then, but he SWEARS that he-s burning calories and because that-s what he-s really trying to do, he-s okay with it. Now, I don-t have anywhere near the same kind of body my dad has: I-m 170 LBs, he-s borderline 300 LBs. Does walking on the treadmill over and over still burn calories? I thought your body gets used to low intensity cardio after a while. I-d really appreciate any answer. -

you wanna be at 60%MHR for one to start effectively burning fat. hey why can't they run on the treadmill. walk walk walk. walking can hardly get you past a 6 and that's why you think they are working at a low intensity, drop that incline nonsense and get them running aiming for an eight and let's see if that won't intense enough for them to burn more calories. I like your videos but this no. I am on the treadmill 1 hr and I burn 700+ calories, mind you walking 10 minutes to get me to a 60%mthr(weight management heart rate zone) and I'll keep running gradually increasing resistance for 40 minutes and bring it down in the last 10 for a cool down

Dear Mr Cavaliere, first of all, thanks for your great videos, I just started 15 days ago with perfect diet and daily light training following your free videos and I am getting incredible results even without supplements (but at least 100 g of protein from food. I am losing fat and gaining muscle starting at some 15% body fat level (I could barely see my 2-packs)
Tomorrow I am invited to a hiking tour, some 13 km long and uphill. Are there suggestions from you on how to avoid negative consequences on muscle development and instead use it for fat loss or even muscle training?
Thanks in advance

This is amazing! I learned about cardio in school as treadmill, etc. but I couldn't figure out your confusing method of burst training where you mix in strength-building exercises and stretches and cardio all-in-one. Now I understand your thinking. .. you get to burn the fat (even more than treadmill, have dynamic stretching thrown in, and include strength training with cardio all-in-one. Amazing. .. now I have more motivation to do that harder burst training. .. I get to develop cardio plus not lose any muscle. .. that XERO program I bought really is a muscle-building beast.

Crazy. I've lost 15 pounds in the last 2 months exclusively walking on a tread mill, and I have a dead slow metabolism. I do 30 minutes a day starting at 10% - 3-5 - 3. 8 mph. After one minute, I hold on for 30 seconds and raise the incline by 1%. After the 30 seconds have passed, I walk as fast as I can with no support for one minute. Repeat through 15% and then from 15% back to 10%. Walking treadmill interval training (because I have torn cartilage in my knees. How about that? Little outside the box thinking. Use your brains, folks.

i agree with 90% of what jeff says but if you ran for 20 minutes instead of walking for 40, you would burn more calories than in 20 minutes of burst training. although i suppose its true that not everyone can sustain a good enough pace for 20 minutes. if you can run particularly fast for 20 minutes, you can burn 1. 5-2x the amount of calories than with burst training. just 6. 5mph or a 9: 13 mile would beat his example.

Which home gym would you recommend purchasing that is not expensive but tailored for a woman that needs to focus on women areas the most like lower half of the body. I looked into the Marcy smith cage and powerline, but both had horrible ratings with the pulley system and quality. Missing parts and customer service to replace. I really want a smith cage but have went towards more the Bowflex Blaze. Any suggestions?

Dear Jeff, I'm a firm believer in hiit cardio i do it every day that i train. But why is it that on days when i do hiits on the bike i dont burn as many calories at the end of the day (i have a Fitbit, to tell me when i hit 3, 000) then when i do hiits on the treadmill? I find that it's much more difficult and challenging on the bike than the treadmill. Doesn't that seem backwards? Why is this?

That was poorly argued. After watching that video I'm now convinced that 40 minutes of jogging is better than HIIT lol.
40 minutes of jogging with the right diet and lifting heavy is completely different to what a long distance runner does, runs for 2/3 hours, doesn't lift heavy and builds up huge calorie defects. Of course they're going to be skinny lol.
