Just
Jeff. just a suggestion. a couple of years ago. while rehabbing an ACL reconstruction at a rehab center. another guy (also going through ACL reconstruction) and I were alternating between the treadmill and a stationary bike. anyways. the other guy got onto the treadmill and felt confident enough to increase its speed. however. he ended tripping. the bad thing is. because the treadmill was backed against the wall. he ended up falling down on to the belt with the wall holding him in place. the belt continued to run causing a severe burn to his face and shoulder. needless to say. he did not have the emergency cut off chord attached. honestly i believe the majority of people don't use the chord. anyways. your discretion. you may want to flip your treadmill around if you don't end up scrapping it.

I'm good with physics
when you give a step in the treadmill, there is a force in a diagonal direction in the forward leg which can be divided in two components, one pointing upward, and the other pointing backward. That force goes trough your leg and end up in your upper body. -
As physics says: F=ma (force = mass times acceleration)-
The upward force component is compensated by the force of gravity, so your body doens't move vertically-
Now, if there's a backward force component in your upper body there's also an acceleration there, which will move your upper body backwards in the treadmill. That means that you'll have to use your glutes and your hamstrings to compensate that. -
But, because of air resistance, the glutes and the hamstrings will be less used in a treadmill

Hi Jeff, your explanation fits perfectly to my general experience with treadmills. However since a couple of years I'm dealing with more or less serious issues related to my Achilles tendon, which forced me to look for better ways of running in general. That is where I learnt about the -the Pose Method of Running-. The implementation of this method does not really fit to your explanations in this video. Especially because there are also instructions from Dr. Romanov available on how to adopt -the Pose Method of Running- properly on treadmills, I wonder what you think about this concept in general and it's adaption to treadmills in particular. Thanks a lot! Gerhard

Very helpful video. I absolutely always felt when I would
Run on treadmill it was much easier. The machine is assisting and doing some of the work for you. This is obvious. This is a fact for all machines vs free weights. They assist you. The reason most gyms in this country have machines. And a small area of free weights. Minimize injury and any legal issues for the gym. Also they get you no results. So people quit the gym or keep paying for it and never go. Finally leave only
To start again few months later. Cycle goes on and the gyms get richer. Stick to free weights and conditioning with body movements.

People are over-complicating things. The simple fact of the matter is anyone who runs 1 mile on a tread mill and 1 mile outside will notice a difference in the workout afterwards. Anyone who thinks a treadmill is an equivalent or as good needs to do a 6 minute mile pace on a treadmill and a 6 minute mile pace outside. Over the winter I've utilized a treadmill and have had some gains in my 1. 5 mile run time. But that's only cause the alternative was not running at all due to poor weather.
Jeff I'd like to see a vid on improving cardio/ muscular endurance as a whole.

JOKEESSSSS! bodybuilders have been using treadmills and other cardio machines for centuries and haven't had problems with them. In fact it's how they burn calories to cut and she'd to get ready for shows. Of course you don't need to use them, but Jeff is just saying use his formulas such as jumping on the floor like a kangaroo and it will help you burn fat faster of course he needs to sell his product. And do u see any bodybuilders hopping up and down on the floor lol not dissing anyone here cuzz I do jeffs burst training and actually like it. Ppl need to grow up

You mentioned the 1% incline. However, I was curious on what you thought about steeper inclines. I personally like to walk between 20-30%, and I like to do intervals at 10-15%. If I do these activities outside, it seems like the steeper I go the less the hamstrings would need to work as there isn't much of a pull phase. I realize that by the time my foot pushes off, it has been brought down by the moving tread, so there might not be as much of a lengthening of the Quads before contraction, but as far as hamstrings it seems negligible. thoughts?

If you haters don't like what Jeff has to say stop watching his videos. Oh and GET A LIFE! You mean to tell me that you have nothing better to do in your life than watch people's videos and complain about how wrong they are. This is what he does for a living, this is what he got his degree in, and he was a trainer for the Mets. Plus, he is still asked by sports leagues to come and talk to people about different things. So I think he knows something about what he's talking about.

Could you make a video on how to target the hamstrings and calves separately? I used to play basketball so my body is very imbalanced (right hand and left leg. Is there also a good way to stretch the calves and the hamstrings correctly? I've tried your hamstrings exercise from your last leg workout video, the one with the ball, but it feels like my left hamstring (maybe related to basketball) is doing more work than the right one. Thank you.
