m going to give you a day by day stretching plan for loosening up tight hamstrings. It will take just minutes a day and help even the tightest of hamstring muscles. The goal of the 22 day series is to do two things. First, give you actionable exercises and stretches that anyone of any ability level can perform in order to produce noticeable changes. The second is based on the science of habit forming. It is said that anything that can be done for 21 days straight has a higher likelihood of becoming a habit. If you can get into a hamstring stretching routine then you will likely be able to stick to it long term. That said, there are three blocks of stretching and exercises being performed over the next 22 days. Each block lasts seven days, with an initial test performed before you begin and a final test to see your improvements performed on day 22. Each block consists of two dynamic hamstring stretches, ideally performed in the morning upon waking. One of these is going to focus on stretching with the knee held straight and the other with the knee bent but the hip flexed fully. The reason for these two different positions of the knee is that the hamstrings cross both the hip and the knee. You can get at different areas of the muscle better depending on the position you hold during your stretches. Both positions are key if you want to see your optimal hamstring stretch results. The other half of the block is ideally performed before going to bed. These are the static hamstring stretches. This is the type of stretch that is held for 45 seconds to a minute and done to create long term muscle tissue length. Once again, one will be performed with the knee straight and one with the knee bent for the reasons stated above. The exact hamstring stretching routine for the 22 days looks like this: Block 1: Dynamic Stretches - Leg Swings - 3 x the 8 each leg (forward / back) (side/side) - Active Knee Extension - 3 x 6 each leg (hold each rep for 3 seconds) Block 1: Static Stretches - Standing Low Hamstring Stretch - 2-3 x 45 seconds each leg - Knee to Chest Stretch - 2-3 x 45 seconds each leg Block 2: Dynamic Stretches - Downward Facing Dog - 3-5 x 8 - Wall Hinge - 3-4 x 8 Block 2: Static Stretches - Wall Plant Stretch - 2-3 x 45 seconds each leg - Band/Towel Stretch - 2-3 x 45 seconds each leg Block 3: Dynamic Stretches - Table Top Side to Side - 3-4 x 8 (left/right = 1) - Bulgarian Hamstring Stretch - 3 x 8 each leg Block 3: Static Stretches - Doorway Stretch - 2-3 x 45 seconds each leg - Standing High Hamstring - 2-3 x 45 seconds each leg Make sure you try and perform this routine consistently for the entire 22 days. Block one stretches will be done on days 1-7. Block two stretches will be done on days 8-14. Block three stretches will be done on days 15-21. The key to increasing flexibility of the hamstrings and any other muscle for that matter, is consistency. If you don-t stick to a regular routine then you are likely to not see the results you are looking for. I understand that stretching can be a bit boring. It is not as active as something like working out with weights or running. That said, without the attention paid to increasing muscle tissue length you are likely not going to get the most out of all the other activities. Don-t undersell the importance of getting loose hamstrings. When the hamstring muscle is tight, you are likely to experience back pain and likely knee pain. It doesn-t take a long time to fix this problem if you do the right type of stretches. Hopefully, this video will show you the exact stretches to do for tight hamstrings so you can put this issue behind you once and for all. Be sure to pay attention to the caveat regarding anterior pelvic tilt pointed out in the beginning of this video. That is an instance where the muscle may feel tight but not actually be short. It would benefit from actually stretching the hip flexors rather than the hamstrings. If this is your problem, be sure to

Hey guys I wanted to say I'm doing a recovery documentary. When I was young I was in a bad car crash and I was criplled with severe scoliosis until I had another bad car wreck. I went to massage school and went to the chiropractor for years and slowly got from every week day to 3 times a week to once a week to a couple times a month to whenever I really needed it to one and ive beem good since. I built up the stsbilizer muscles eniugh to get relaxed movemrnt to full range of motion. Then walking. I walked a couple miles a day slowly using good form. I could only do 2 or 3 pushups because my chest was aleays messed up eaelier but I did them with good form. I went out to tuendesert and went up to 8 miles every couple days in the sand and got. my abs killer and core even more intense. I stsrted wslking for miles with heavy things in each hand to get all those shoulder and rotater cuff muscles. Then I got a job changing semi tires and got a lot of upper body buld up. Now I could do 60 pushups easy I wasnt the one who chose to stop which is pretty cool after not doing any since those 2 or 3 months ago. Anywys ive been eating my protein limit and getting a good variety. Hemp organic milk cottage cheese yogurt cashews peas string cheese. My metabolism is amazing its always been AWESOME so I eat a lot for the amount I burn. If I cant eat 6 or 7 meals a day and 2 or 3 snmoothies I have to drink a whole gallon of organic whole milk or I start burning. I've been doing a few dips. So currently I feel like my chest is broad and a good platform even tho my pecs arent huge. My triceps amd delts are pretty killer. I cut my calories becuase my love handles arent super defined and I want to have low fat so my next push can be all gain and heavy work out. Because of this I wasnt working out really at the time so my upper traps arent as bulky at the neck even tho my shoulders are very broad. So I'm coming to you at my last stage for advice. I can tell you my plan and if you give feedback I'll feature it in the footage. I want to get as gnarly as I can for a music video I'm drumming in later this year with my shirt off. I was planning g on upping my workout and upping my diet as well both going as hard as needed (I havent been doing tires in a while i quit to record the track. At the same time as going hard proper form is important for me so all my fast twitch support muscle can optimize its strength with correct usage news moves with weight is still physical therapy for me. It would be nice to get to complex snaps with weight but only at the right time being supported is important and like yoy say you need to be aware of full body form. I was thinking getting as good as i can with relaxed pushups before trying an bruce Lee though next level stuff. I kept my protein up but is it safe to jump my calories back up or keep them low now that I'm burning? If I want a lean meal or less fats I drink 2%. I have garden of life raw organic. I'm going to put a little in each meal for thr enzymes. I was going to do your 10 minutes chest workout and biigger arms workout because my biceps are havent been addressed. And pullups on my offdays from chest. My abs are still gnarly huge and powerful. I feel like the burn will finish that off without needing manybelly days. Evem tho my traps went down my love handles arent defined. Maybe that side twist dip would be good for evrtthing involved especially if i go slow the entire time. As far as my chest I want the right progression because if i can do 60 with what it looks like RN we're in for good things.

Hi Jeff, I hope you read my comment. I'm suffering from a pain in the back of my right knee, the pain feels sometimes in the inner tendon on the back of my upper leg closer to my popliteal fossa and sometimes it switches to the external tendon of the back of my leg also above my popliteal fossa, it feels like a cramp that does not allowed me to extend my knee and sometimes just doing things around the house hurts a lot that I will need to rest and put on a knee support that helps, but I am to a point that even wearing a knee support is helpless. The MRI showed a little arthritis on my knee and doctors thought that was the cause of my baker's cyst and so my pain. I even went under a surgical removal of my baker's cyst but the problem still persists. I would really appreciate if you have the time to answer me. THANKS! right now I am doing the above routine hopping that this will alleviate my pain, and yes I am a no ass.

So as someone who has been struggling with knee injuries for almost decade I was keen to try this method out. I have been trying to get my hamstrings more flexible, but had not found a program that I was able to follow. I'm on day 12 of this one and the results, for the hamstrings, are already clear. My hamstrings are already a lot longer. I haven't had the courage yet to test its effect on my knees during running. I think I'll wait until the end. Another plus is that I seem to be sitting more comfortably on my bike while cycling.
However, since day 10 I have been getting a stiff lower back. It might as well be a placebo effect from his warning -do not do this if you have APT! - at the beginning of the video and I'm blowing it up in my head, but it is a slight concern. Sadly, his APT video is a lot less organized than this one.

You know what I really love about Jeff and his videos? The fact that he doesn-t just address what you think you might have. I struggle with tight shoulders/neck/back/hamstrings and so when I go looking for relief, I just find location specific videos. But Jeff-coming into this specific video, I KNEW that he was going to point out and bring to your attention what might be CAUSING tight hamstrings. I have APT and I was waiting for him to address it to provide awareness and here we are, right before the video starts. he disclaims -first thing, if you look like this--. Jeff, one hell of a guy. I love your attention to detail and the thought and care you put into these videos. I look up to you: )

Cannot tell you how grateful I am for the free information you give; just give away! That tells me that you-re truly invested in you-re desire to help us be are best! Sure, you want to make a living, we all must, but for some that cannot afford any extra at the present, this approach does so much more, i. e., maybe personally I can-t take on anything else financially, but the number of people I-ve talked about Athlean X makes me believe that somewhere along the line they-ve looked into your programs themselves. Especially when they see my personal growth and consistency and ask, -Man, what are you doing? -

I want Jeff to make video series on how to work out with some chronic injuries, e. g. alternatives to squats if you have cartilage damage in knee, or something similar. Fully aware this can be extremely broad in scope, but perhaps it would be manageable if limited to most common athletic injuries of each major body area and also limited to showing only alternative exercises to major compound lifts.

Thank you SO MUCH for covering this topic! I've had super tight hamstrings my entire life. I've been doing to downward facing dog and the wall plant stretch almost every day for 6 months now, but doing those only prove to be insufficient.
I'm definitely going to do this starting from tomorrow and maybe comment the results 22 days from now in a response if anyone's interested.

Hello Coach Cavaliere!
I've been having popping in my hips for quite a while now. (when I lift a leg and lower it again) I do MMA and some lifting and it can be very frustrating and even become painful sometimes. I also have problems with hip external/internal rotation.
What can I do to get rid of this and maintain good Hip Mobility?
Thank you very much.
