The Killer Science-Based Leg Day (This Is Natural Bodybuilding)

I'm training legs with Dr. Layne Norton. Layne was actually my first ever science-based coach! He coached me to a Canadian national gold medal in natural bodybuilding and he s the person who convinced me that you don t actually need to eat clean to get shredded as long as you hit your macros, that cutting water before a bodybuilding competition is dangerous and ineffective, and that you can combine powerlifting and bodybuilding successfully. I don t think it s a stretch to say that everything I know about training and nutrition can be traced back to Layne Norton. Layne is himself, an absolute monster. He s both a professional natural bodybuilder AND a world-class powerlifter. He won US nationals twice and even took home a gold medal at Worlds for his 668 lb squat, at 205 lbs bodyweight. He also does a lot of myth busting about nutrition and training on popular podcasts and in the media. This is the leg day workout we did together while he was visiting Ontario, Canada!

Jeff you should try out a weighted stretch at the end of your calf raises, I like to do them for about 10 seconds It's a really easy way to add more tension to the set for a very small amount of time and out of less working sets but it is harder to recover from. I first tried this with shrugs where I'll hold it for more time for up to 30 seconds.

I don't think I've ever heard Jeff complain about how hard it is to move those heavy weights, it definitely makes him more relatable- except when I think about it, I think more like the other guy except like 100x angrier cause when I can't move the weights I just think I would rather be dead than not able to move this weight.

Every body is natural, i have watch him training with brandon curry when the guy was preparing for the Olympia and the dude was overliftinhg him easily, also has big ups and downs on his physique, due to bulking and cuttinh ok sure, duck eggs

Great video as always I'd love to see more of these workout videos it was really entertaining while mixing in some tips on each movement really adds a blend of your typical content where it's topic focused and entertainment/workout

Layne trains hack squat a lot, so of course pendulum squats works well for him, but yeah, take away the need to stabilize yourself (machine) and you'll end up lifting a lot on machines

It's so nice to know that Layne has watched out for Jeff since 2012. What a great powerbuilding science duo! I wonder if Jeff is invited on Huberman's podcast next.

Please do a vid on limb length ratios and technique.
I know my measurements, but I don't know how to translate them into optimal technique--I need some ratios

Got my leather RISE belt yesterday. Thank you! It looks like Layne got stronger as he went on, lol. Great video. I like that squat machine. Wish we had that at my gym

it feels weird when you claim someone else is 100% natty. I'm not saying he isn't, and I believe you believe, but you can't know with a 100% certainty
