Never do neck bridges; they're anatomically unsafe and can result in a cervical disc tear or prolapse but the other neck exercises (flexion and rotation) shown by Jeff actually come first than shoulder shrugs and neck extensions. Strong upper traps but other weak neck muscles can result in an annulus tear and can be induced by the strong contraction of upper traps in a shoulder shrug if your other neck muscles are weak; telling from a rough experience after micro-tearing my C5 annulus due to weak other neck muscles but very strong upper traps. Warmup before weighted exercises is necessary as shown in the video. Obviously bad neck posture increases risk of neck injury.

It's useless and risky to use weights and equipment. The proper way is bodyweight, do some wrestler's Bridge for the back of the neck (use ur hands at first) and wrestler's front bridge for sides and front of the neck (on ur knees at first) always train soft, when you can do both 2x20rep you can go into the real brigesThere is no neck day, after training your lower back (if you're into Bodyweight, with simple bridges) you will be ready for neck training; )

A word of caution: sudden rapid neck movements like some neck exercises and chiropractic adjustments may lead to vertebral artery dissection, causing posterior circulation stroke or bleed, of which I've seen many cases as a neurologist. While I can not quantify the risk of consequences including permanent hemiparesis and blindness, these are never communicated by trainers and chiropractors. Consider yourself warned if you read this comment.

Channing Tatum, who I think looks peculiar anyway, looks better with a smaller neck imo, you say he looks 'goofier/nerdier', if it's purely about the way a person is perceived I'd argue that he looks less aggressive & therefore friendlier. I'd say that if your neck 'stands out' then it's either too thin or too thick. Jaw shape is a big factor, the tattooed criminal has a jawline that does not flatter the photoshopped thin neck.

Been training my neck for about a year now, 3 times a week. My neck barely made any progress. I do only curls with weights: 4 sets with 55 pounds for back of the neck and 45 pounds for the front. I do 15-25 reps with 1 minute rest. My form is good so i dont know whats the problem? I have a pretty long neck because im tall (6'4 and 200 pounds. My diet is good, does anyone have any advice?

The gym I used to train at for boxing used to have a lot of us do some crazy, old school neck exercises. It definitely helps dull your opponents strikes when you have a bigger head and strong neck. I never got knocked out despite taking some nasty shots. Also if you look at a lot of MMA fighters who are known for having iron chins, most of them have thick necks and big ass heads

Hey Jeff, awesome neck gain Did your face get wider too? It looks it got a lot from the before and after pic. I ask this because I would like my face to get a bit wider because I lost weight/muscle mass due to illness and I'm now skinny all over including neck and face area. I need to gain mass all over but also want my face to fill out as well. Thanks

Should have been doing this years ago. Got a pinched nerve in my spine at the neck and citnof blood supply to the left side of my body. Destroyed my gains and symmetry. Rebuilding is taking quite some time. Would probably take a couple of years to get back to where I was. I thinks this wouldnt have happened if I was exercising my neck

Could this help someone who gets nerve issues in their upper back/neck area? Seriously. work as an illustrator. Did an 8 hr drawing session one day. next morning my neck wouldn't let me turn my head to the left and moving my left arm/shoulder was excruciating. Found out I pinched a nerve. at a fing desk.
