Hey Jeff!
Such a great video. I love the videos where you provide a lot of insight, but this rapid fire video was fun in its own way. You ve helped me a lot in my fitness journey, in understanding how my body works, and how to improve in manageable but effective ways. So thanks for that
The only thing I didn t agree with in this video was about sauna use.
From personal experience, I ve noticed my sleep improve after using the sauna that day. And, being that sauna doesn t negatively impact like an ice bath would, it would stand to reason that hypertrophy would improve as a result of improved sleep.
Secondly, you did mention that sauna is better for recovery without the negative hypertrophy affects of an ice bath. That, to me, is a very good reason to use it, since it can improve your willingness to work out certain muscles again and again.
As for the heat shock proteins, I m not completely sure. More research is needed on that front imo, or perhaps I just haven t seen the relevant info on that yet to see how useful/irrelevant they are.
But I would love to see you do a myth busting Mondays on Saunas. Perhaps a 2 week challenge?
Anyway, love your videos, and can t wait for the next one!

Gonna make a stand for Ashwagandha being under rated, because since I started to taking it made a huge change in my life. Greater recovery, better sleeping, less soreness, higher libido. When I tryed a new brand that was cheaper, I could see that it was a fake product in a few weeks, because I was getting more tired and more stressed. I'm pretty sure it might not work for everybody, but for me it's a must having nowadays!
Edit: since most people asked, Im using ashwaghanda extract (500mg dose, 2x per day, from SunFoods. 8 months now.
At first I buy just for trying(pretty sure I saw it in a older Jeff's video) didnt see immediate results. But when I was almost a full week without it, I was feeling really sh'tty, same way when I tryid to change brands.

I wish there are arab speaking versions of you guys, and i wanna include Greg Doucette, Sean Nalewanyj. Most body builders, natty or not, in the arab world are still stuck in the mentality of bulcking cutting phases, force feeding then crash dieting, BCAA, and Creatine (hairloss, and water retention) not knowing the mechanisms, etc. And of course the (benefits) of PEDs. The shortcuts and not even caring about the aide effects, and the worst of all, the BRO SPLIT. Guys I'm talking about trainers and coaches. So bad that info is not spreading in our countries. Cut the carbs, cut the sugar, the white poison. What is glycogen? What is ADP and ATP? anyways, i try my best to spread the info you guys put here. Great work. Thank you!

I think it's important to acknowledge that these perspectives are coming from a bro bodybuilding world. Particularly in the case of sauna, which has a lot of research now related to overall wellness, reduction of stress, free cardio in the essence that your heart rate is going to be elevated for some time if you go to proper temperatures etc. So as a tool it certainly is underrated. Obviously though, if you're just looking at things to see if they will help you grow muscle then it is overrated. But for your general health. The research says otherwise. Especially considering that the dude says kiwis are underrated when the amount of studies supporting sauna use significantly outweigh those of kiwi use.

Overrated vs underrated is to black and white. Here s a prime example- kiwi as Jeff explained has uses and it s proven sleep is where you grow so effectively the more rem cycles you hit the more you grow assuming you have the building block necessary. Is it essential no. Cardio after eat vs fasting cardio- yeah sure it shows no change it muscle building but the food sits in the stomach causing bloating depending on the food and the person which is counter productive to breathing and frankly uncomfortable probably have to. Can it be done yep but is it optimal no. So a percentage might be more precise. Just my opinion.

Eating less clean has made me both bulkier and leaner at the same time. I mean I go to the gym 5-7 times per week with 4-6 of those workouts being really heavy and intense and I play other high intensity sports 1-2 times per week (floorball, beach volleyball, padel, SOMETHING) AND lower intensity sports (disc golf, fishing, nature walks) 3-7 times per week (usually 5) so I burn a lot of calories and I'm naturally lean so I guess it makes sense to go a bit over in calories every once in a while? It's been kinda dumb since it's been More pizza and beer, more gains.

Hey jeff, for ice baths y all both stated it attenuates hypertrophy. Assuming you went deep on the literature, was it done before or after working out? Or on both scenarios it indeed had a positive correlation with attenuation of muscle hypertrophy? I ask because Dr. Huberman is a great advocate showcasing all the physiological/psychological benefits of it. In my anecdotal experience, it has added great benefits to my workouts. Specially to my resilience and ability to stay focused or get back to a focused state.

Thanks guys. Very informative. As you both know, there is SO much BS info out there. It is nice to hear the opinion(s) of well-read, educated, research-based pros. As a relative novice, I'm always looking for ways to maximize my workouts while also considering my age (60) and other limitations. I do work out 3/4 days a week with the goal of increasing muscle mass to some extent to compensate for natural loss due to aging and, hopefully, some aesthetic benefits as well. Again, thanks.

I agreed with everything except toning and training fasted. They must only be looking at their own bias studies because studies DO show training fasted will increase muscle building while burning fat. Honestly these guys are kinda far too so it s either too much creative, they re naturally fat, or eat too much. If you re looking for a fat body building look then take these guys advice on toning and training with food in your stomach

I've heard from Andrew Huberman's podcast that icebaths are good for the purposes other than building muscle mass. Do you think that these may be worth it or not, if my goal is to build muscle, but also to gain benefits that the icebaths can provide? Is there any way to make use of both, by maybe increasing the temperature(swapping ice bath for a cold shower at the end of a warm shower, let's say?

I think training to failure is underrated. Most people don't know what true hard training is like, and most movements apart from the big, heavy compounds, can really be pushed hard. Most people in the gym simply don't know how to train hard and they need to push themselves to deep waters to actually know the dedication this needs to reach a goal physique.

The EAA comments were really helpful. I m a vegetarian and I have to work out early in the morning and can t eat 1-2 hours before hand. I tend to get nauseated if I eat before a without. I take EAAs on the days I lift but I wasn t sure they were actually doing anything. I think I m the target audience that they might have some benefits for!

Would a short cold shower in the morning or after sauna also have the same negative effects on hypertrophy like cold plunges or icebaths?
I would think yes, but maybe not as significant if you just do it for 30 seconds to a minute?
If anyone knows more about this topic, I would really like to hear their thoughts about it. :)
