TESTING MY DEADLIFT 1RM How to Increase Your Deadlift Common Mistakes DCJayhawk57: I would add a 4th cue that I've found really helpful. I think learning how to activate the lats is really important for a proper deadlift set up. A lot of beginners think that get your back tight means to shrug into the bar or to retract the scapula. Obviously, this shortens your arms even more and is a position you can't hold under load. Learning how to tighten the lats and depress the scapula is hugely important and will make bracing and keeping a neutral lumbar even easier. I find warming up with cable pullovers and trying to cover the armpits during the setup as helpful. Lat activation also helps prevent bending at the elbow and trying to jerk the weight off the ground like many newbies do. I guess one last thing I'd add (5 cues) is pulling the slack out of the bar before pushing the weight off the ground.

i see you look down or just below neutral as u lift the bar from the ground, its prob personal preference and what youre used to, but i find personally if my chin is raised just a little bit more it forces my chest to rise up faster and i feel stronger with more explosive power, because lifting up the chin a bit more drives up the front, but i think it prob depends on everyones build

I know this is a late comment but I watched your video for the first time and I noticed the date 8-8-06 on your arm and I asked myself hey, what does that mean so I searched it up on YouTube and Im very happy you are still alive but secondly I realized, thats the day I was born. So I think that is s crazy coincidence. Keep up the good work. Youre a great youtuber

Happy to see some heavy pulls again Matt. A huge issue with hips shooting up is the absence of proper slack pullin of the bar. I've learned this myself cause I had that issue. Pulling as hard as possible without lifting the weight off the floor, tensioning your whole back, and then pushing hard into the ground and lifting the barbell up

Brilliant video, thanks a lot manI'm just a bit curious what your opinion is on hex/trap bar deadlifts as opposed to a barbell deadlift? I've primarily been doing trap deadlifts as I find it easier to keep a correct posture, but have started doing barbell as well, as it feels like there's a different muscle emphasis when doing that

Matt you should be careful while deadlifting. Seems like whenever you PR deadlift your right hand (the one when you have underhand grip) band a bit doing a little biceps curl. It's really dangerous, that's when people snap their biceps's which I don't wish to you.
