You see. as a scuba diver, you learn about contaminated compressed air. With our scuba cylinders, they run our breathing air through a filter. Because if they didn't, gasses like co2 or other things/byproducts that float in earths atmosphere could get compressed and put into that tank. Now where we stand now, Troposphere (1bar / atmospheric pressure) under water that changes, the gasses above water, may be fine to breath, but under water they could (will) become toxic.
Breathing contaminated (dirty) air, could kill you under water. Therfore please. for the love of God, DO NOT do this! Not only is it dangerous to breath compressed air underwater to begin with, breathing compressed other gasses underwater would be fatal.

I want to let everyone who is thinking about building one of these know that if you inhale off this or any other scuba gear and swim up while holding your breath. the air will expand in your lungs and cause them to rip open (pulmonary barotrauma. The other four potentially fatal injuries you can receive from holding your breath while ascending are: Arterial Gas Embolism, Mediastinal Emphysema, Pneumothorax and Subcutaneous Emphysema. Get some scuba training before using any scuba device (including home-made ones.

Although he's using really low PSI, this reminds me of an advanced open water Scuba class I took while stationed in Okinawa back in the early 70's. Part of the training was to breath directly from the tank. NO REGULATOR. The purpose being if your regulator failed, you'd be trained in how to deal with using that high PSI air from the tank. Sort of scary at first. But once you get the hang of controlling the valve, not all too hard to do. These days, backup is the norm.

DO NOT DO THIS! Without proper training any self contained underwater breathing apparatus can become very deadly VERY quickly. Among many other deadly factors, it is very easy to rupture your lungs just by ascending wrong. Scuba is a very fun sport with the correct equipment and certifications, however if you are not properly trained IT CAN KILL YOU.

Why? If you just said hey this was an experiment i did. Check it out, i would of said a prayer for you silently and moved on. but you just HAD to do a HOW TO style video. As if you were qualified to teach this suicide method. Please be careful how you present your content to the world.

terriible idea, scuba gear is tried and tested and regulated. t
the plastics on this are not rated for breathing in or food safety and they regularly leak. the seals also fail and wouldn't stand chlorine or probably salt, not to mention any of the other risks.

This works so long as you exhale all the time normally. Try having a guy on a dock pumping air through a garden hose down to ya. That works but it's slow going. Best to take scuba class and get certified. Besides you won't be seeing reefs with this gear.

can I pull off a basic snorkel attached to a hose connected to a float above for a 10ft dive at least? I'm only looking to do small recreational exploration. I really don't want to have to buy a ventilator. They're so pricey!

This is complete sham. Notice that this Muppet is never seen taking 2 breathes in the video. That's because he isn't breathing from the piece of junk, just holding his breath from the surface.
Don't be fooled by this.

This is similar to the scuba tank I attempted to make when I was 11 years old. It kind of worked, but almost killed me.
Seriously, just buy the proper equipment, and get certified. Scuba isnt really a DIY activity.

reply

Its actually really dangerous to put something with straps like a backpack on your back in the water, because once the air is done it can push you to the bottom and drown you
reply

i hope he understands that while that might work in shallow water, it could easily and catastrophically fail at depth. (unless his sprayer has adjustable pressure valves)
reply

Well if 2 or 3 mins u need then it's fine but all that effort and risk for 2 or 3 mins. Really.
Plus it didnt show the part how to get the air out of that tank to breathe
