On this video I will show you 4 breathing exercises you can do to maintain a better, more horizontal position while swimming smooth easy freestyle. The first exercise is to Grab the wall with one hand, take a deep breath, put your face in the water and kick just enough to put your body in a horizontal position. Practice this exercise on both sides, breathing to the left and breathing to the right, until you feel comfortable with the movement and the breathing technique. The second progression is very similar but you will have a kick board instead of the wall and you will also do full strokes. Kick about 6 times and then take one breath and a stroke. The third exercise is the same as the second but without a kick board. Usually swimmers have a preferred breathing side but it is of good practice to learn how to breathe well from both sides. The fourth exercise is simpler. Just kick with your arms down and move your head to the side to take a breath. There is no arms movement. Focus on maintaining the hips high on the surface of the water and take quick breaths the same way you practice on the other three exercises. Now you are ready to do the whole thing! Swim one length of the pool on the smoothest freestyle you can master, while taking short quick breaths. Try breathing every 2 stroke, every 3 stroke and every 4 strokes. Notice the difference. Stop at the other end, control your breathing and do it again

Ive recently started learning to swim since last 10-12 days and Im able to do front crawl, however Im not able to breath properly, almost every time I bring my head out, either water goes inside my mouth or nose, I sometimes end up opening mouth before its out leading to water going inside and then when I do this right, I forget to close mouth before I put my head inside again, leading to water going inside mouth, also when I pull my head out, my feat goes inside again, I then have to align myself again to continue, is this just me or it is expected? This is really making me very disappointed & demotivated

I was quite surprised to hear that I should hold my breath in the beginning and then breathe out just in those few seconds before I breathe in again. I tried, and it worked, but only with hard concentration. Cause before watching your video I was always told to exhale constantly under water in order to avoid anxiety. Could you explain exactly the difference (Holding or not holding your breath at the beginning? And could you tell me why it makes a difference, if you exhale through your nose? And what was the other video you talked about?
Me gustan tus videos. Son muy divertidos y me ayudan tanto!

When you come up to take a breath in from your mouth, are we still inhaling from our nose at the time but not noticing because its so small
Like I was practicing in my bed turning my head to the side and inhaling in my mouth, but I feel like Im inhaling in my nose too
And Im having such a hard time in the pool, because I get water in my nose and mouth
Ive quit swimming like 4 different times in 2 weeks

Just a small note: If you keep on swimming regularly ( let's say at least 3-4 times a week, your breathing will optimize itself naturally. Without realizing you'll start exhaling just before putting your head above the surface and you will only exhale as much as necessary. No worries if things don't work out directly.

Currently trying to figure out how to do this and its HARD. I have a massive anti drowning reflex of some kind when I breath in water trying to do this. Just short circuits my brain and I stop swimming to catch a real breath. Gonna be interesting to overcome this one haha Great video!

Most of d coaches teaches to start exhaling just before entering into d water and exhale completely in d water and then to turn our head to take a breath. but hear u said really different thing to do, K will try to practice it and see how it feels, thanks for d video

Is it normal when you do the first exercise, I can only inhale back around 5 times before my chest starts to hurt (like wanting to breath normally? Or does by practice I should be able to do the exercise for a longer period of time?
Beginner swimmer. :)

I think most can learn to turn their head to breathe however, a lesson on how to not take water into the mouth at the same time, (especially with one eye still in the water, would be much more beneficial. You can't just say, Do this; it's misleading.

Started swimming lessons again. I was told to exhale all the time while looking down but the advice to just exhale as you turn your head for a breath makes sense to me. Exhaling all the time leaves my breathing out of sync. I'll try this. Thanks

I'm currently taking my swimming lessons, and I have to admit I drink alot of sea water every time I try to breathe like that. I can trade water, float on my back this particular breathing technique is soo hard!

Stagnation, between unilateral breathing to bilateral breathing, shortens if swimmer has a feel first by grabbing the wall and keeps breathing on his uncomfy side - i escape from this impasse using same method.

I used to exhale on the bottom which was very hard since the pressure of the water is more than the air pressure in my nose. Its much easier since the pressure of water is less at near the surface

1: 14 ok but whaaaaaat problem?
Why couldn't you just say what the problem was? I don't know what your last video was and you didn't say what it was so now I have to go and find it
