After two years of talking about it we finally get back to Europe on what turned out to be one of the wettest summers on record. This means making the most of our time in the sun. So just hours after touching down, and 24 sleepless hours since leaving home, we suit up for a run to the Guggi Hut on the flank of the fabled Eiger mountain in Switzerland. I cant think of a better way to start our Europe adventure than in the shadow of the Eiger and Jungfrau. Weve got big plans for our time in Switzerland and France but the weather might require some adjusting. Luckily there are unlimited mountain opportunities in the Alps. Our trip starts here in Wengen which is in the Lauterbrunnen valley two hours from Zurich and just south of Interlaken

This is my vacation! Its an old timey travelogue. Back in the 60's before there were videos, etc. We would go to ovens auditorium and list to people talk through their videos of far away places. Thats what TV served when you watched James Bond and other movies of that era that showed exotic destinations. For people like us, we visited those places and saw the sights via the movies, personal 8mm videos and other peoples trips. To this day, This show is taking me where I'll never go and do things I could never do. Thanks the these Monster Amateurs- and Cheers!

I was born in Switzerland and in high school we used to go skiing in Wengen and Kleine Scheidegg, it makes me so nostalgic seeing this. We only ever went there in the winter months, I feel like that's when there are more people. Many of these small mountain towns are filled with vacation homes and become kind of dead during the warmer seasons, at least that's how it used to be 20 to 25 years ago.
Thank you for the beautiful videos, this one brought back memories!

Excellent video! You guys are seriously fit. I am glad to see that you ate at the lovely Grindelwaldblick restaurant which is great and has some of the best views in the Alps. If I may recommend a hike, please try to hike from Grindelwald, up to Pfingstegg, then on to the Baregg hut and on to the Schreckhorn hut. Really spectacular! There are loads of places in that area for great hikes, if you are still in the area, let me know and I will recommend a couple more.

Awesome video guys. I was wondering if anyone was a good shoe recommendation for a mountaineering novice. I'm pretty comfortable with doing class 4 stuff and soloing some low 5 level stuff. I would like to know if there is a trail running shoe that works with crampons (I'm new to these and haven't gotten any yet) because I like the ankle mobility. My current shoe is a vasque and I was thinking of updating to the vasque satoru LT Low. Thanks for any help

The one German phrase Danny needs to learn for Switzerland: mach schnell! Look it up Danny, it is YOUR essence; -) At least Christof gets to have proper meals due to the European hut system: -D Matt welcome aboard this one, you knew what you signed up for with the Haute Route having been the predecessor; -) Looking forward to seeing more footage of what you guys get up to!

Welcome to Europe boys: ) Made me smile seeing you guys came across the pond: )
And yes, everyone in the european alps is trustworthy, we often have huts that only have a Drop money here slot and everything including the kitchen is self-service, same with the cheese fridge, its common see a Help yourself kind of setup like this glad you guys like it: )

The cows would actually be a lot happier without the heavy and loud bells. they are mainly carrying them for the tourists to have a swiss experience. In some remote areas of the alps the bells do serve a purpose so you can find the cows or goats when it's getting dark but other than that it's mostly for romantic reasons and pride of ownership.

Amazing video! Yet, guys, 'happy' cows still would imply you wouldn't jam 10 of them on one square metre during wintertime and kill them at 1/3rd of their lifetime. If you truly love animals, don't consume them. Trust me, they would strongly prefer that.

Running in the high country over he next few videos could lead to some action from Danny. But for now
Official Counter: Mediocre Amateur videos since Danny's last puke: 11!
Really looking forward to the next few videos!

We need this mountain culture in North America. If we build a hut like that it would have a tram or a road and be filled with the retired cruise ship crowd. Such a cool culture over there.

Awesome! Went to Switzerland in 2019 and enjoyed our time in Wengen and Klein Scheidigg. This video puts a smile on my face and brings back excellent memories. Thanks for this!

The happy cows bells ringing. and they are not from Cali. The views are amazing. waiting to see more of your Swiss adventure. don't snack too much on the Swiss Cheese.
reply

There is very little diversity in the Alps so there are not many problems relating to left side of the bell curve, hence, you can have a trust based vending machine.

The cheese is imported from Holland and transported by cows, the cows in the video are just taking a rest for the return journey with chocolate. True story

You guys had a lack of sleep & harsh attitude at the end of the day. You couldn't put that cheese fridge into your community in Utah either.

I did the same trail a couple of years ago. It is as gorgeous as I remember it to be. Thanks for rekindling the memories! Have a good trip.

What a treat to come back from my daily run and discover one of your videos. They are so great: funny, inspiring and so well done! Thanks!

I would have been upset with you too for rushing the dinner. North Americans are not very good at being still or syncing with time.

Looking forward to seeing your new European adventures. Hope you have an awesome and safe trip, mediocre amateurs!
