She looks at the man and tries to pull the skirt around her knees. She has lost dignity by showing her body. She looks at other people in stress. She tries to pull the man closer. She implies that the man was not protecting her enough. She tries to make others see how upset she is about the man. They walk away, but she looks back, upwards and around as to make the bystanders think that she either likes to be naughty or that it was humor. I'm always struck by the absence of litter in these historic videos. I'm not sure that there were less litter bugs. There just wasn't much to be tossed in to the street. People gathered what they purchased in containers they brought with them; and items sold were not encased in layers of disposable packaging. You also notice very few people walking around with food and drink in their hands, so again-no packaging to become litter. Now; no matter what you're doing or where you're going; there is food available everywhere. The people from our historical past; as a group, are much more physically fit.

The men on the high beams didn't seem to have any harness or safety lines on them. No wonder so many died in construction of tall buildings. In the 1920's and 30's it got even worse with all the super high skyscrapers. There were no safety regulations and employers often didn't supply safety equipment. It was the depression and dangerous work was considered much better than no work. I read that during that time 2 in every 5 construction workers were killed in building skyscrapers. Even today it is dangerous work, but they have improved safety much from the old days.

Looks so modern still very advace life was so much better before smart phones social media and the Internet. I think those times were probably better than today. There's no privacy today and everything's expensive with global warming today sucks. You tube tik toks social media its all exploitation of people no privacy and smart phones are the worst with everyone filming every body. Kids are addicted to smart phones they can't put them down today's times are the worst times I feel

Is it not possible to work with gradient maps for the coloration In almost all the coloration looks bad as it’s just one flat hue put over the black and white areas. If a graduation map is using instead one can easily set so there is say more warmer tone of the hue in the light areas while more saturated but colder hues in the darker areas. Would make a ton of difference to make it not as flat / unrealistic

Thanks for sharing. We're glad this film footage was preserved and restored. As if it was yesterday. You will see the smiling faces of those kids and you will find those construction workers are a hardworking employees. Those were the hard times but you may find the contentment in their faces. They also wear fancy clothes especially the women with long skirts to hide their legs.

According to feminists, white western women were locked in basements and being beaten, not being allowed to walk around in public showing their face or without a guardian at this point in time. Couple things. Those kids looked at that camera like I would look at a flying car. The women didn’t look like they were being treated like second class citizens as society would make you think today. I probably weigh more than everyone in that video. Nobody appeared to be in a hurry.

How’s this possible Didn’t think they had anything remotely capable of recording on film in 1899. I know it’s been cleaned up and greatly enhanced with today’s computer software, but you still need the original film, and I didn’t think they had that sort of equipment back then

Amazing to go back in time with so much quality, your production is super good! Notice how everybody seems to be taking their time even if the film is slowed down you can tell they are not in a hurry and how thin the people are compared to today.

I’m amazed to see how sophisticated their attire was back then! Also, there was no obesity back then. Everyone looked so much healthier than they do now. They looked happier too, it was a slower pace of life back then. I love these videos!

Must have been quite a shock for immigrants from rural Europe, many of them had likely never been to or seen a city in their life, and then to witness this huge metropolis.

What a creepy restoration. Weird voices, everything has been smoothed over to look like a cartoon. A perfect example of someone going waaaay overboard with the restoration. Yuck, I'm out.
