When I'm travelling I just skip the so called sights. If a place is popular with tourists, I don't go there. I don't need to go and take a picture of popular place x just because everyone else is there, and quite often they're not worth the hype anyways. Tourists and tourist areas are the literal worst. Also don't believe in hidden gems, if it's in a guidebook or on TripAdvisor, it's not a hidden gem, it's very much a public gem and quickly turning into a turd.
I just hang around the city. I usually check with people and maybe google a bit to see what the regular people who live there do for fun and I just go and do that. I feel like that is the best way to really experience a country. For eating I just walk around and go to random places that look decent.

Someone once told me that being a tourist is a job- you have to wake up early, schedule your visits, prepare things in advance (for instance, you can't see Al Alhambra in Granada without pre-bought tickets) and so on. In time I have changed my opinion on having to see the most and I actually schedule days just to do something not very tiring, particularly if you travel with children- after all going to a beach or to a natural park is also a cultural experience: -) I'm actually getting to the point where I'm avoiding anything with long queues, so many nice things to see that don't have long queues. :-)

I actually ruined a wheel of my suitcase on a pavement in Toronto, had to share showers and toilets in a national park in Quebec, got literally insulted by a beggar in Vancouver (go to hell with your apologies, she said, after I said I was sorry because I had no cash whatsoever, and got run over by groups of Asian tourists in the Rockies, so I guess it's not a typically European matter; D
Agree with the double bed though! As Europeans, we were so surprised to find double rooms with literally two double beds in them: ') We were like is it a room for 4, or what?

I agree with you on all points. We took our stuff to the Laundromat and they did it for us for a small charge. We got robbed twice in Paris. So for our long Europe trip we avoided France and Italy and Spain. We did not have any unpleasant experience and a memorable holiday. To this day I refuse to go to those 3 countries. Getting robbed feels like being violated like rape. There are so many beautiful places to see in my lifetime, I am 65, I can do without them. Love yr videos. Thanks.

I agree with all of these except the homesickness bit (maybe I haven't traveled long enough but lived in Asia several months and RESENTED having to leave. I find that it's when I get really sick combined with bad weather PLUS unfriendly locals that I want to go home. If just ONE of these factors is relieved then I find my enthusiasm returns (this did NOT happen when I was in Ireland and I actually went home earlier than planned.

Describing the smell of yourself after not washing your clothes properly as Euro-funk is kind of wierd. As if Europe has anything to do with it? No matter where you go, not washing your clothes will result in a smell. You make it sound like your lower standard on personal hygiene during travels is something European.
Oh no I'm annoyed I didn't wash my clothes properly and now they smell! Damn you Euro-funk!

I am surprised that lovely French cities are often full of dog poop on the pavement and this doesn't seem to bother the locals. French people: Why are you befouling your beautiful cities like this? Foreigners: Always make sure to look down frequently when walking!

Hey guy, aren't you thinking that word eurofunk is racist? I traveled a lot me too and I believe that everywhere there are people that are clean and people that aren't. There isn't an euro smell, as I believe there isn't an American smell as well.
