Honeymooned there, and the best advice we got was look up! Most people only look at eye level, they never look up- there's a whole other architectural world up there- I never knew I cared about architecture until I looked up! If you only have one pre- or post-cruise day, HIRE A GUIDE. you will not regret the money spent- they VIP you into everywhere- no lines (ques) and you can see most if not all of your bucket list items!

feb-early may and October and November are really low and easy to get around, it is just really bad right at carnival, june-august and a bit at Christmas and even when it is backed it is not too bad in venice.
now Florence is nuts a lot even on weekends, but I think going in sept, oct, nov, mar, april, may you will be fine and have nice weather and it will be fine. have a great trip!

At the basilica di san marco is a long dress ok? I'm going there this summer and I don't want to pack pants. I heard it gets up to 104 degrees and being from California I know wearing pants will be pretty horrible.

figure 30 euros a night in a hostel 360 Euros. food 15 euros a day 150 Euros. tourist stuff 25 euros a day 250 euros. souvenirs 100 euros. transportation 50 euros per trip 150 euros. you could do it.

And if you want to save some money book your hotel in Mestre and take one of the many (but terrible) busses
