In China take a DD (like Uber. Even a crummy brand is nice than a regular taxi and they usually have water. Like Mark said, I've had good local taxis, but I have to say most of the time they'd think I was a tourist or I spoke no Chinese. You can barter if it's a long journey or hire them for a day, but I just avoid regular taxis now. I did have to rush from one airport to the other years ago and paid quite a lot, but the guy got me there in time breaking the speed limit, having his wife with him at work and blasting Celine Dione out his CD player.

Locals in most places are wonderful but watch for the over friendly ones. Scenario A: You're looking for something and go to a local Hi, can you help me find. and they either point or say to follow them to a corner so they can point. A local will not take you blocks and blocks. Scenario B: You're looking for something and local says Hello, you're a tourist? Let me show you around. Sure I'll take you there. it's just on this bus. Both are friendly but Scenario B will come at a price.

In Japan the proper taxis are excellent. The read door opens for you, they are always clean, the drivers wear gloves and the cars always had lace curtains. I lived there nearly 20 years ago so there's probably an Uber type thing now, but either way. The only thing is they might 'seem' expensive depending on where you're from. In any city, a metro or tram is even better if the stops work out well. Just be careful to check if you have to validate your ticket like in Vienna.

We were in Barcelona, myself, my mother and my sister all had backpacks and we had a police officer tell us to where them in the front. Also in Spain we came across a lot of woman that start to bless you with water and some kind of tree branches and you tell them no but they keep doing it and then they want 5 for it and they can get really aggressive on getting money, so dont let them get close to you.

google maps the top 2 or 3 routes from the airport to your hotel and some routes that you know you are going to take, ahead of time. Print them out and take them with you. Then you know if the taxi is taking a longer than normal route. And if he tries to say theres on accident on the route you suggest, you will have a 2nd route already prepared.

Considering you got lost lugguage to a cab drivers; lost your hotel confirmation in Dublin, almost paid the wrong person for train tickets, I'm wondering why you got shooked down in Russia?
we traveled in Russia for 2 weeks in 3 cities (Moscow, SP and Kazan) but we never got shooked down. same in Bdapest, Vienna and Prague. No Hassle

The Video is a bit outdated now. If you want to take drinks through security checks, your are restricted to 100 ml, this is half a cup. What you can do is buy drinks AFTER security in the Duty Free, or you can take an empty bottle and fill it behind the security check. Make sure the water is okay in th country you travel from-

I read two incidences online where travelers got ripped off at German train station. They hand over 100 euro bill, and teller hands back change for a 50, insisting thats what they paid with. Both travelers were not great English speakers. So put on a fake English proficiency front or something.

Another one young girls invite you to a drink and you get flattered agree then waiter slams you with super exaggerated bill for 4 cocktails that are 10x more expensive then demand a payment. Dont fall same trick with friendly stranger who invites to a bar. This is more common in Istanbul
