prettty standard stuff. id cards, passport and registration is ubquitous. maybe even with extra city tax, breakfast not included.
only in the usa and uk is inches, feet used and ground floor being on the acutal ground lol
as for bidets and toilets, plumbing is not designed anywhere for tampons-sanitary towels or heavy waste paper. hence there are plastic bags near toilets and bidets.
usually in smaller and less expensive hotels do they have slat beds or 2 single beds: placed together, in most modern or branded hotels its a minimum of a king or queen size bed.
as for lifts or elevators being small, they are adequate size for safety reasons, in comparison to usa elevators being large, as many of their users are heavy and very large.
the EU uses common electric plugs and toilet buttons-one large, and one small. they do not appear in ireland or UK

The breakfasts in European hotels vary considerably. Some of the best I've had were in Switzerland and Germany, with fresh fruit, fruit juices, yoghurt, smoked salmon, as well as rolls/bread & ham/cheese/salami. whereas in Italy and Spain breakfast isn't such an important extensive meal generally so they might just be a croissant and jam, and obviously coffee, although I have had an impressive spread in a small family-run hotel in the Basque country. France seems to be in the middle, the Netherlands too, so just baguette/rolls and cheese, ham & jam. Obviously in the UK and Ireland better to go for the full cooked breakfast. Oh yeah and don't expect a big pitcher of iced water at breakfast like in the USA!

I know it's been 5 years but as someone from the UK the 'Double room' thing threw me. I work in a hotel so when Americans arrive they're always angry.
Generally a 'Double room' is a room with a King Double bed in it, sometimes this can be split into two singles and it's then called a Twin Double room. They're sometimes marketed as 'Twin Double Rooms' to show it can be set as either.
But I've had Americans book a double room for 4 adults, expecting to arrive and have 2 large double beds to sleep in and then act as if it's our fault they've only got 1 double bed.

Hi! My husband and I love your videos and have appreciated your advice. Weve only been to Europe once and on shock for us at the hotel in Spain was this. The booking and reviews said the hotel had fantastic toiletries so I didnt pack shampoo etc. Turns out they meant a shoe shine kit and shaving kit. One of my friends who has travelled a lot laughed at me and said Oh yeah! Europe never has that in the hotel. Maybe you could give more info about that in a future video. I know this is an older one. All the best to you and family & safe travels!

Sometimes the room card needs to be put in a slot before the power comes on. If you want to charge some equipment and are going out, leave a spare card in the slot. Bar fridges won't be in most rooms. Maybe you'll get a kettle to make tea/coffee. Ask if there isn't one in the room. Bear in mind that if a hotel says check in at 3: 00pm some will not let you in until then. Get a VPN so you can watch TV programmes from home on your tablet. 99% of hotels will have reasonable wifi - sufficient for streaming Netflix etc.

Great video, you are so right about the hotels. Wife and I been to Europe 40 times over past 35 years, visited 35 countries, two trips this year cancelled. I remember during 80's and 90's we would not have hotel reservations for 80% of our nights, but during last 20 years have had to have reservations due to such large increase of tourists or you may find yourself sleeping in the car or at the train station. We always loved the small boutique hotels, like Altstadthotel Weisse Taube in Salzburg

I remember two funny things from our visit in the Czech Republic. We watched the news and to us the weather girl looked like she just came from a night club, not business clothing like our news people. She was wearing a low cut blouse and miniskirt. Second, it was sooo hot and the front desk clerk asked us if we wanted AC. We said sure! She said she would bring it up shortly. Long story short, she brought us a tiny little fan lol! We still have a good laugh about that one.

Ive stayed in many European hotels- tiny rooms, top cold/hard to control heat, ac only in the mediterainian, no customer service, tiny bad beds, little or no toiletries, you have nowhere to hang towels, teeny tiny bathrooms, no closets, tv does not work, room phone does not work, stairs in odd places and horrible breakfasts. Sorry. Just my experiences. I always bring my own washcloths. I have never had a good breakfast at a hotel in Europe.

France, Paris King Edwards Hotel, very small room, myself and my brother got a double room, meaning two beds separate by a night stand with a light on top. The beds were so narrow that my brother fell off the bed the first night, but the price was not small at all, very inflated; shame on most of the hotels in Europe selling this dinky places for a humongous price, who they think they are. ?
