I dated a girl from CR so I had the advantage of being with a local. I would say if you can travel with a native spanish speaker bc you'll get the best deals. We ran into some marginal issues with bringing stuff into the park but we pretty much got into the park problem. Everyone was very friendly. I def paid more then my gf at the time bc like you said foreigners pay more but it was totally worth it.

At the park entrance, certified guides with big tall telescopes lead guests thru in small groups. They know flora and fauna well. They set up the telescopes and the group sees so much more than you realize is there. Frogs, birds, butterflies, ants, wasps, groves of trees, 3 kinds of sloths. we tipped our guide well. She gave us great eyes to see more then we realized was there.

Loved this beautiful paradise, and Quepos. But the iguanas there will chase you! And the Halloween crabs are really neat too. Definitely dont see anything like that here in Texas. We drove from San Jose airport to Quepos and Manuel Antonio which was totally amazing. Definitely worth every penny, so much to see and just breathtaking! Cant wait to go back one day!

I stayed in one of the hotels at Manuel Antonio. it was off the main drag going into town and across the street was a restaurant that was built out of an old airplane. It was on the side of a cliff that gave you a fantastic view of the sunset. Incredible place I will definitely be going back there.

I would say avoid at all costs weekends and holidays. Try to go during the workday. I used to go thee when there were only 3 small hotels in all Manuel Antonio and it was amazing. Not anymore it is just crazy.

One additional safety concern is the Manzanilla Tree on Espadilla Sure Beach. They are extremely poisonous. See the signs in the trail for more info.
