With the tour group one - that's why I was so happy to have our professor be our tour guide when we went to Rome: he had spent lots of time living in Italy and studying the architecture and history of Rome (one of the things he teaches is art history, so he knew a ton about what he was showing us, but he was also our professor, so we weren't expected to tip him, and we weren't a huge group (15 people, so getting through even the Vatican Museum on a Wednesday afternoon (I DON'T recommend Wednesday afternoon for the Vatican Museum - it's insanely crowded) wasn't too hard.
Also, good tour guides with those groups will use some kind of sound system so that they don't have to yell in order for everyone in their group to hear them, but also so that they don't disturb other people who are also there (the common ones I've seen are a microphone for the tour guide and receivers with ear buds for the group members.

I don't believe in avoiding a place, monument, or attractions just because someone says its overrated. That is total BS. So what if you tell me the Eiffel Tower or the Leaning Tower or the Colosseum is overrated. to you maybe. But I cannot really trust anyone on telling me what is and what is not until I experience it myself. I am the only one who can judge whether something is overrated or not. We all have different tastes. Many people love Paris but I hated it, and prefer Amsterdam, and I am sure a lot will disagree. But hey, like I said, we all have different tastes. so live and let live. Let everyone explore what they want and see for themselves. The only things I will listen to as far as travel adivse is how to avoid pickpockets or get scammed, transportation, or the places to eat. That's all.

When I first went to Italy in 1997, I had some truly awful meals. When we went back in 2013, we never had a bad meal. The difference was that we used TripAdvisors great app. It detects your location and shows you all the restaurants around you. The better the reviews, the bigger the dot. Many times my husband wanted to head for some tourist trap on the square, and instead I found a wonderful restaurant around the corner, full of locals, with great food. We kept to restaurants in the top 25% and never had a problem. You also need to understand that youre eating local cuisine, not the American version of their food.

Great advice for Iceland on buying insurance. My wife and I freaked out too when the roads became one lane. We had that experience going through a tunnel. We did the only sensible thing, and took out the GoPro as we did it. We also sang Metallica's four leaf clover about the part of the light being a freight train at the end of the tunnel because for us it would be a car.

I hate disrespectful travelers, those who refuse to embrace the culture they're visiting by refusing to learn even the basic words and phrases on the native language, those who are loud yet unfriendly and, the worst of all; those who compare everything negatively to back home.
I love to experience other cultures and try to immerse myself in them as much as I can.

So you mean to tell me that I've been calling the leaning tower of giza the wrong thing? Didn't you say it was the leaning tower of piza? Nobody has ever told me I was saying it wrong and I'm almost 30! I've always thought it was the leaning tower of giza

Missing food from home that is only avaible in your home country. I am also uncertain what to eat at lunch. I usually eat sandwiches at lunch which is not an easy travel food. If you are used to bread from the Netherlands other bread tastes kinda bad.

My wife and I and 2 of my daughters flew from ny to amsterdam and then to connect to venice. We went 7 hours late to bologne and then by bus to venice and our luggage went there 12 more hours later.

Hey great videos Wolters, quick question since you have travelled around so much. How much would you say per day food budget should be for a solo Traveller in Budapest and Vienna?
