From a British perspective I believe that Canada is probably the most civilised country in the world, closely followed by New Zealand, Australia and Europe. Unfortunately, most sizeable countries have unbearable extremes of climate. Vancouver is exceptionally temperate, perfect for British emigrants. My son, raised in Southern England, spent a year in Vancouver as an exchange student working as a Barista and over the next two years obtained his degree in game design from the progressive Vancouver School of Art. He literally yearned and pined to return to Vancouver and eventually obtained a good position there.
Many sources 'dis' Vancouver for its decline but all major cities have their problems. Seattle WA, only 190 miles south of Vancouver, has a similar climate but is much less attractive mostly due to governance by the USA. I fail to understand why the thirteen independent states bordering the USA have not switched allegiance to Canada. Eventually, the ten provinces and three territories of Canada could become the sixty-three provinces and various protectorates of a well-governed 'North America'!

Every video you make from BC is generally informative, in a typically US way, but I really don't know why you keep referring to Vancouver's downtown eastside as somewhere to avoid at risk to your health. Compared to areas of the Bronx, east DC, Compton, much of the centre of Baltimore, or many inner city areas of most US cities, nowhere in Vancouver is the least bit threatening. Canada has no gun culture, less overt racism, a more friendly and approachable police force, and no significant gang presence compared to almost any city or town in the US.

Bring a jacket.
Insert the word warm in that suggestion. I live in Victoria, which is even more of a seaside city than Vancouver and evenings here can get pretty chilly - as you say.
As for visiting Victoria, allow a full day to get there and another full day to get back to Vancouver. The ferry trip (cruising time only) is only about ninety minutes, but the ferry terminals at both ends are a fair distance from the respective city centers. Yes, this suggestion implies taking a hotel room (or whatever) for two nights, but so what?

Im from the Vancouver area and this video is pretty accurate. However, the bus system in Vancouver is excellent so you really should not have to taxi unless you really want to get places quickly. And Vancouver does have some nice architecture especially in the main downtown area. Ive definitely been to far plainer cities so people definitely shouldnt expect an ugly place.
The beach areas in Vancouver are also quite nice to visit.

Wool is nice in Vancouver because it handles the damp cold well. In summer the rain usually doesnt last all day. One memory that always makes me smile was a little boy clinging to the side in the middle of Capilano Suspension Bridge--he said, We're having fun, right Dad? Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver is worth a visit too. There is an awesome museum in downtown Victoria near the Empress Hotel and marina.

Asian food here in Vancouver is the best in all of North America. Some of the food here is like youve never left the place. Dim sum, HK style cafes, hot pot, bubble tea, food stalls, you name it, its the best. To have the best tourist experience in Vancouver, Richmond Night Market is the place to be. They have stalls thats not just Asian food stalls. Theres all kinds of things there its like a carnival.

Oh I had no idea that was a national stereotype. I mean the hosts tip about taking off your shoes before you come inside.
When I was a kid and was learning the rules; All of my elders and my relatives it was not even said it was just a thing you did when you came inside.
I am not naysaying what the host said he is far more travelled than I am!

A lot of good points but it's kind of funny to see someone talk about the bland architecture while standing right in front of an Arthur Erickson designed building. One of many in Vancouver. He is one of the greatest architects ever IMO, I do of course understand the point is the city over all.

Thank You for sharing!
Any videos of Vancouver that are available online expressed to be aware of the cities east side, are appreciated.
What is wrong with the politicians in that city for allowing so much filth and human waste to continue?

Ive lived here my whole life and if your coming for a Vancouver vacation its not worth it nothing to do here you are better off just visiting Toronto or Montreal. Vancouver has literally nothing to offer besides trees water.
