Where should I go in France? This video covers a nice itinerary for first time visitors to France. Our suggested France tour starts in Paris for a few days visiting the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomph, the Louvre, then off to Normandy for the D-Day beaches, then the Loire Valley for the Chateaux, and if you have time visit Provence for a few days

More to dos for Paris:
1. Check out the Latin Quarter. There are lots of cute little cheap shops there.
2. Head to a bistro in the evening, sit at one of the outdoor tables, and enjoy a nice cocktail.
3. Enjoy a delicious crepe. There are crepe stands and restaurants on every corner in Paris. I highly recommend a nutella crepe, as nutella is super popular in France.
4. Take a boat ride on the Seine River. I strongly suggest doing this during the evening so that you can watch the Eiffel Tower light up before your very eyes as you're riding along the river and listening to an Edith Piaf chanson blaring through the boat's speakers. This was my favorite moment when I was in Paris.
5. Have one of the local street artists create a portrait of you and/or your loved ones. But remember to not pay for the full price! Instead, you barter for a cheaper price. Trust me, you've save some money. I made the mistake of paying the full price of 60 euros (which today would be about $70 USD, and I absolutely regretted it in the end.
6. Walk through the pretty gardens. The Tuileries Garden is a great place to start, but it's not the only garden worth strolling through.

In Normandy, plan to spend a half-day or more in the old-city. portion of Rouen (not pronounced Rooon as Mark says it but two syllables roo-anh with the nasal n ending. It is the old Norman Capital where Jeanne d'Arc was burned at the stake. As Mark says, the Cathedral which was the subject of one of Monet's series paintings is not to be missed. Actually, the first thing you need to do on arriving is to take the little train on wheels that leaves from the tourist office every hour or so and takes you on a complete tour of the old city so you can get an idea of what you want to go back to see. When you visit Mont St. Michel, allow a couple of hours to visit the town of St. Malo about 25 minutes away in Brittany, one of the most charming small walled coastal villages in the north of France.

Mark, thought about you earlier today. I was in St. Louis on business and ran into an English tourist while in line at the Gateway Arch. He flew into Chicago, rented a car, and is driving all the way to Santa Monica, CA making various stops along the way. I didn't catch how long his vacation was, but I just thought to myself that he is going to be spending SO MUCH TIME driving. And he isn't a first time visitor either, but it seems he's spent most of his time along the west coast. I just kept thinking of your advice of picking a region and focusing on that to prevent burn out. I hope he has enough time to take a day off here and there and enjoy some small town life in the southwest or have a good time in a bustling Texas city to prevent burn out

In Provence, don't waste any time in Nice (just another big city) but go north to Vence and St. Paul de Vence for a half day visit for a taste of the real Provence and then travel 2 hours to Moustiers Ste Marie, one of the most beautiful villages in Provence and spend the afternoon and evening there. This is a great center of faience, a special type of pottery for which it's famous and finish off the evening with the best dining experience you'll ever have in your life at the restaurant of Alain ducasse, one of the great restaurateurs in the world.

Hello Mark. I'm French and I love your videos about France. It shows how foreigners see France
Have you ever come to Britanny (except Saint Malo or Rennes ) and what do you think about it? I'm from Britanny so I'm curious and I obviously think that it's the greatest region in French
It's been while since I've written in English so pardon my French; -)

Tip from someone living here: enter Louvre from the metro/Carrousel du Louvre entry, there are far less people there. You can then exit via the main entrance and take fabulous shots of the Pyramide on your way out.

I would definitely include Lourdes on a vacation to France, considering its history and relevance to Catholicism, whether or not my husband and I would need its healing waters.

The drive from \Amboise to Avignon is not that close, its more than 6 hours drive. I would check out Orleans instead on the way back to Paris or Charles de Gaulle
