Don't TOUCH the Mini-Bar in Las Vegas! If you are visitng Las Vegas you will be tempted by the treats and drinks inside the mini bar, well let me tell you. DON'T DO IT! The prices in the mini-bar at your hotel will be mostly much higher than the prices at the Walgreens or CVS that are open 24 hours on the strip. So if you are visiting Las Vegas, here are the prices you may pay for those mini bar drinks and snacks

I learned this the hard way, but now my advice to people going to Vegas is spend $100 getting what you may or may not need at CVS/Walgreens while you're sober. Sunscreen, gatorade, snacks, booze, mixers. get it all. Worst comes to absolute worst you don't use it and can give it (preferably unopened) to one of the many homeless on the strip. I'm sure they would absolutely appreciate a bottle of gatorade and bag of chips. Better to spend $4 on something you don't need than $18 at 3 am when you find you DO need it.

This whole mini bar thing is really indicative of the decline of our society. Nickel and diming you into oblivion. Surcharges, fees, etc.
They should have snacks and water available for free as a courtesy to their guests. Instead these greedy casinos price gouge you any chance they get! That is just pure greed and disregard for their guests.

Make sure you check your bill when you get home. I was charged for an item in the mini bar when I didn't even open the door. This was at Planet Hollywood on the Strip.
When I called them to tell them about the situation they didn't even contest it which lead me to believe this happened frequently.

It should only be programmed to you charged only after two seconds of lifting an item by accident, but that wouldn't be profitable. If not outlaw it all together, then it should at least be legally required for the hotel to give you the option of keeping it locked in case you have kids with you

Why doesn't these high prices fall under price gouging laws? I never even look for the fridge in a hotel because I do not trust the sensors. The sensor may jack up my hotel bill to an even higher level. I heard you can ask for the fridge to be empty before moving into the room?

Last summer I crossed the street in Vegas on a day when it was 120, so just crossing the street I barely made it. I went into the Paris and asked the guy at the bar if he had a water and he sold me a rally small water for like I think 3. 50 but I paid it

Unreasonable madness, I say! The worst prank imaginable would be to visit your friend's room and, when he is in the bathroom, you quickly open that mini-bar, lift off every item in it, and then close it again.

Quite similar with clothing retailers such as Marshalls and Ross. You can find + buy high end clothes (although some could be used or old) for relatively cheaper prices, compared to when you buy them new.

I'm fascinated by how these things work. It looks like each drink is sitting on a motion sensor so even if you pick something up and put it back they will know and charge you anyway.

Ive never seen a minibar that was worth using. Am I just a cheapskate?
Good to know that I might not be able to put my insulin in a minibar fridge without getting charged!
