Congrats to Andy H and your future bride!
I asked my wife in the Tonto National Forest in AZ when we were down for spring training. There's a mountain, her favorite right outside Fountain Hills. I hadn't picked the day, it just happened as she caught her first foul ball at a game that day. So, I decided this was it and I told her we were going to one of our favorite Thai restaurants that evening. I wanted to do it just as the sun was about to set behind Mt. McDowell. Well, she had to freshen up after the game. Time was a wastin and I couldn't figure out what was taking so long, but it was hot that day and she need the time to cool down.
Anyway, so we're now flying down the highway then into the park. I'm fracturing a few speed laws when only to see that about a mile from the spot I'd picked, the coppers were sitting on both sides of the road with their cherries and berries on. It looked like the road was closed due to some of the heavy rains earlier that year. Good Lord. we'll never make it, or so I thought. Turns out, the park rangers were having a union meeting. We pass them, get into the lot, and I'm practically dragging her to the spot as I didn't want to miss the sun which was setting ever faster.
Just as I'm about to pop the question, these two guys happen along and ponder if they want to fish where we were. (UGH. frakin serious) They must have noticed the look on my face and decided to try another spot. SO when the coast was clear, I got down on one knee; not an easy task as I'd been injured on duty about a year and a half earlier and was still getting back into shape. I pop the question and her response, Are you serious? She didn't think I'd ever do it given a bad prior marriage; however, the ring I procured said I was.
We were married almost a year later in Fountain Hills with the backdrop of Mt. McDowell and the fountain going off.

Don't propose marriage on a hot-air balloon unless you're 95% sure it's a yes. Lesson from Doug Heffernan(Kevin James) in The King Of Queens. A one episode couple got engaged(in other words not Doug and Carrie) while on a hot air balloon and airborne. Doug said, That would've been an awkward float down if the answer was a no which it thankfully was not. LOL!

Not everyone likes romantic places like Paris, Venice, Santorini. My sister hates Venice (advice to my future brother-in-law.
For me, the best place for a proposal is Torres del Paine. If my sweetheart lasts a few days on the mountain trail, she will withstand the rest of my life with me. If anyone has seen Lake Pehoe, they know what I mean.

I proposed in the cloisters of Westminster. But I had back up locations. And thats where my advice begins. Have two or three locations in mind and determine if the timing and location is right based on weather, crowds, etc. my backup was at St. Pauls in the dome up a few floors and the 3rd location was a bridge just outside of Bath.

The one time my luggage ever got lost while flying was when we flew up to Buffalo for me to meet her dad. Fortunately I had the ring on me the whole time. After getting his permission I took her to Niagara Falls the next day. Married two months later & 15 years later we are still loving together

My husband proposed to me on a vacation with friends in Venice. He wanted to take me to the balcony of the Basilica but they were closing, so he rushed us up to the top of the Saint Marks Tower and popped the question. It was unexpected but an amazing spot to see the island and take photos.

I proposed to my fiance 2 weeks ago in Las Vegas. Didn't know where I was going to do it exactly but I had a few places in mind. Just went with the flow and did it when it felt right. I ended up proposing inside the chandelier bar of the Cosmopolitan hotel

I see engagements at the Lincoln Memorial all the time. It's a very popular spot but you have to be OK with strangers taking your picture and getting involved! I imagine this is the same at the Eiffel Tower and other busy tourist spots.

Nothing is cheesier than an elaborately planned marriage proposal with the synthetic set production intended to make it romantic. You might as well schedule a meeting at a Holiday Inn to present a corporate merger proposal.
