Flying the same day is no big deal.
IF. Your flight arrives in the AM at your port of embarkation
Youll have time for some snags.
These cruises DO NOT leave till the afternoon as they are letting off the last cruise in the morning. (Especially true for large ships)
Boat excursions are a big WASTE of money. They cost often 3x or even more (especially in the Caribbean) than what you can find as soon as you walk off the ship. Just make sure you have time to be back on time. Good rule of thumb is plan to be back 90 min before they say you have to be. DO bring your own booze on bigger cruise lines. Wrap it in some clothes in check luggage theres less than a 5% chance they will ever know, as they are moving fast and can NOT check each bag. The risk of it being found is worth trying to save on obscene alcohol prices. Worst case scenario youre out money on a bottle or two of liquor. Happy cruising.

Ive done my share of travel and value your recommendations. My wife and I are planning a cruise to the eastern Mediterranean and especially Crete, so the size of the ship is important. I feel sorry that people on La Belle de lAdriatique did speak to you but weve had similar experiences because we were travel with our two boys from Boston to Montreal.

With the drink package, just be sure what it actually covers. I went on a NCL cruise in the Adriatic sea and the Free Open Bar only covered prices up to $15. It wasn't too much of a problem for me, but I only found out about it when I ordered a glass of Blue Label and it was $29. I would've had to pay an extra $14 outside of the open bar package.

When my mom and I did a cruise around the hawaiian islands i was soo worried about her missing the ship to the next port as she is always late. In Honolulu the ship was about to take off from port and had to backup again after a few mins because someone else was late and the boat waited to pick em up. Thank god my mom wasnt that person.

Some people have commented on how cruises 'nickel and dime' patrons to get them to spend money on booze, and tours. Economically speaking, this is 'price discrimination' which gives everybody the cruise the want and by 'legally' pricing down the demand curve produces a lower breakeven price so more of us can cruise like the Rockefellers.

And cruises tend to attract. a certain kind of people. The kind of people that have lots of money to waste, and think the world should revolve around them. So don't be surprised when you run into many people that are angry that you're in their way, because this cruise is only supposed to be for them.

One of the nice things about beng multi lingual is it avoids communication at your table. My late wife was bilingual english german and I am bilngual endglish spanish and I am passable in french. There is nowhere in the world almost where you cannot find someone who speaks one of hose languages

I learned that you should READ the pamphlet or leaflet that the cleaning person leave for you each day. The daily program is in it. All the goings on in it. The first cruise that i went on I did not read it until 3 days in and missed out of some fun stuff.

Ha, they boo you on little ships? I've only been on the big ones, they don't care if you're there or not, they just leave.
I can just imagine the whole crew lined up while they're waiting for you to show up, an arranged boo crew.

Almost all cruise lines have a special package for a hotel for a night or 2 at a nice hotel. NCL used to ahve a great deal on an embassy suites hotel for a night or 2 before the cruise and or a night or 2 afterward.
