Jocelyn is back helping with some information on visiting Cuzco, Peru. We have quite a few videos for Cuzco and Machu Picchu, but we felt that just some basic tourist insight on Peru, and visiting Cusco specifically could hlep people enjoy Peru even more

Access to machu picchu is now limited and you must book ahead. We were there two weeks after you and stayed in the sacred valley, Urubamba. It poured buckets of rain the night before. The train to machu picchu shut down mid-day but we got down later. The next day it was closed. Machu Picchu has shut down multiple times in the last decade during the rainy season. Your post about Lima was mostly true but, there are truly only two safe districts. Mira Flores was were we also stayed and another next to it. Out of those districts were our tour went through were not clean with garbage in the streets. Bad Traffic yes. Took full boxes of Pepto and Imodium and I had an issue after day 8 of 11. The market smells are indescribable. We were overcome by it in Puno. Lake Titicaca was great. Inca Cola tastes like cream soda. Guinea pig tastes horrible, alpaca is good.

I got sick the first night in Cusco. We landed an went to hotel, had some coca tea an then went on city tour. We knew that we should have just chilled for the day, but we figured that it was mostly driving so we be ok, plus it was only 4 hrs. About half way through the tour I started getting headache. When we made it back to hotel it felt like I was short of breath. After 6 hrs of that I went to clinic. I didn't believe in altitude sickness but it is serious. So take it from me an chill when you land

Yeah that altitude. I acclimated after the first day, but I noticed it made it hard to sleep. I guess the combination of your heart beating harder for oxygen and all the coca tea you consume to mitigate the altitude combines to make it a bit tough to sleep at night. Cusco was well worth the physical strain though, I really enjoyed the city.

I loved Cusco! The Peruvians are the sweetest. The only problem is the altitude. My problems were loss of appetite (which I should welcome) and I also had sleep apnea, which I've never experienced. It took me about four days to acclimate. The coca didn't really help. I would go back in a minute! Also loved Lima which is at sea level.

Hi, where did you stay?
How many days did you stay?
How much do we need to pay the locals for taking photos with them?
Hw mch was the tour to macchu pichu?

reply

I was there last year & was out of breathe just walking from the plaza to my hostel.
Found it weird when I was at Machu Picchu & it was lower elevation than Cusco

When you heard the car alarm go off, I'm glad you didn't postpone the rest of the taping. It was really fun to try to keep our attention on your comments.
