I found those Hostess cakes to be disappointing when I ate them as an adult. Sigh. The most epic road snack trip I ever took was with my older sister, who used to work for the Morley Candy Company, based in Detroit. They owned some restaurant franchises she worked for. On a trip to Detroit, we toured the factory on a Saturday and they sent us off with an terrific assortment of candies and an enormous bucket of caramel corn. We drove from Detroit to Gladwin where our grandfather lived and nearly ate ourselves sick on that popcorn. We had to put it away in the back of the car! We also grab Pringles for road trips and vacations though we almost never eat them at home. Packaged cookies like Milanos come as well.

We keep a permanent snack box in the car. Smoked almonds are a must. Salty, crunchy, and healthy. Real fruit strips that are organic and just pressed fruit. When in PA, you have to try our huge variety of chips and pretzels. PA is considered the snack capital of the world and our gas stations and grocery stores have lots of our local chip and pretzel makers. Middlesworth chips are the best! If you are in Indiana and Ohio you have to visit a Joella's Hot Chicken. We prefer to support small local establishments when traveling if at possible.

How many other cultures eat like we do in the car? This is such an American cultural behavior (and a bit of an embarrassment. Lol such a unique idea. When I was a kid we traveled by train from Washington State to Southern California taking 25 hours. My mom packed peanut butter, bread, summer sausage, cheddar cheese and crackers plus fruit for this trip. It was cheaper for the family. I remember her saying she would rather travel frugally than not travel at all.

YAY! Your tips on how to get shredded and have 5% body fat LOL
Peel me a grape
Candy bars have less fat and less sugar than granola bars
sorry but granola bars are really bad with saturated fat and sugar! eat fruit instead
Gatorade has less sugar than soda
Fruit drinks like Kerns nectar actually has more sugar than Pepsi or Coke
Chips and crackers have less sugar than cookies

Dried cereal is my daughter's go-to for the car. I'm not talking her usual breakfast cereals (Cheerios, Rice Krispies, I'm talking the cereal that is loaded with sugar and comes in all sorts of colors. She's also obsessed with goldfish. The area surrounding her car seat is always covered in a beautiful rainbow powder when we reach our destination. But hey, at least we get to the destination!

There is no bad food, just a bad amount of it. A pack of Cheetos won't harm you, a pack every day will. I eat semi-healthy throughout the year, but on my travels I have a big pardon for all the local junk food. For every new country I visit I have a list of local sodas, beers, snacks, sweets and dishes to try, that's what I love about traveling the most - all the different tastes.

Bless you, Jocelyn for your more tummy friendly foods. All of the other suggestions would certainly make me feel awful during a road trip. I tend to stick with dry foods like almonds, in shell pumpkin seeds, dried fruit, and granola or whole grain cereal. Nothing exciting but it wont make me sick

Hot take: Cheeto's make a heinous roadtrip snack, especially with kids on a car interior. That said, we're SO here for the jerky.
OMG getting anxiety about cheese dust on the steering wheel.
