The Shetland Islands are the very most northern part of Scotland. A windswept wonderful and of stone buildings, tasty food, and friendly people. Here we go through the best of the Shetland Islands and the things that tourists tend not to like about the Shetland Islands. Filmed on Whalsay, Shetland Islands, Scotland helend222: Australians would travel to Shetland to experience the weather and the unique aspects. This American started this video whingeing about Shetland. Huh? Stay home. Aussies love adventure. We don't travel to find fault, complain and try to put other tourists off a country. What about his accent? Complaining at a million words a minute. Dreadful video. Get a hair before returning to US.

. An American with Scottish ancestors. how unusual. no doubt from the 13th century! this is the Shetland islands the weather is what it is this is not Florida. if you go to the Shetland islands then you do your research prior to visiting and accept that what you may be accustomed to in Ohio is going to be somewhat different on a small group of islands 170km off the North coast of main land Scotland.

The reason to travel is to embrace other places, cultures, weather, customs, etc. None of the so-called 'things you will hate' are even issues. They are part and parcel of the Shetland Islands, and if you didn't want to have an authentic experience, you can always stay home and watch videos on YouTube and order crappy take out pizza. No one goes thinking they're going to an artificial resort environment.

The most impressive thing I found in this video (as a Shetlander) was this American guy's pronunciation of local places. I don't think I ever heard an American say those place names right. Hell most English people say them wrong too.
The Lerwick, Aberdeen, and Jarlshof was perfect. Fluffed it on the Up Helly Aa though. 9/10 effort.

Scotland (including the Shetlands) is next on our Bucket List as soon as the UK opens to international travellers. Your comment about booking a cabin on the ferry was invaluable. I have never come across that fact in all my research.
I have learned a great deal from your videos and I look forward to future ones. THANKS.

Another point to remember. If you visit and intend to travel between the main island and Unst and Yell, you must book the ferries in advance. Don't just turn up and expect to drive on. You can spend a whole day waiting for an unbooked place to be available. This is true for going and returning.

I can't drive, and the buses actually were able to get us around fine when I went. Annoyingly Unst was far too complicated to get to, but hopefully the proposal to build tunnels under the ocean as with the Faroes will help.

They used to eat Puffin Breast back in the day. The recipe was- - Get a large pot of boiling water, put in Puffin Breast along with the steel head of a Hammer- - When the Hammer head is soft the Puffin breast is Done.

Great review. The Shetland TV series has changed my mind from spending money on a Caribbean cruise to a visit to Shetland. Weve visited Alaska and found inner peace. I am confident we can find the same in Shetland.
