How Long Does It Take to Drive Across Nebraska? - Wolters World
video description
1) visit the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha (budget a whole day if you want to see it all)
1b) if you dont have time for the zoo, stop by Cabelas in Lavista with the kids, its a huge outdoor store with tons of real stuffed animals and fun things for the kids and adults to enjoy. (Theres another good one in Sydney if youre coming from west.
2) In Lincoln, visit downtown and take a tour of the Capitol Building (you can just walk in and meander if open) and go to the haymarket for some ice cream
3) the way, when you stop and get gas, grab a Runza on eastern part of the state. They are amazing even if you dont like cabbage. If you dont want one then grab a Swiss mushroom cheeseburger with Frings!
4) the big Kearney Arch is fun to do once and has some interesting history, you cannot miss it on the interstate
5) in Ogallala, get off and go into town and drive to Lake McConaughy to catch the sunset. Its gorgeous! You can spend a day there on the sandy beaches and jet ski or swim. Awesome fishing too!
6) Go see Courthouse and Jail Rock, Scottsbluff and Chimney Rock. all a short drive and you can even see each feature from each other!
7) if youre heading north to South Dakota (black hills) I really recommend seeing some of the beautiful Northwest which is some of the most scenic parts of the state. Outside Chadron Nebraska theres Fort Robinson State Park, Nebraska National Forest. And if you head east to Valentine, you can see Smith Falls, our largest waterfall on the Niobrara river. Wonderful in the summer to canoe down!
. and finally, just remember if you think Nebraska is bleak, wait till you get to eastern Colorado or central Iowa

The interstate follows the Platte river valley across the State giving the illusion that Nebraska is flat. the Reality is that going from the Missouri river in the east to the western border with Wyoming you have traveled about 450 miles plus and you have gained almost a mile in elevation. with no hills That is why the pioneer wagon trains took this route to the West coast. anyone crossing the Nebraska needs to stop at a Runza Hut and get a runza. If you have never heard of them there are a lot of recipes for how to make them on You Tub and a lot of different names. It is a sandwich brought to Nebraska by the Russian speaking Germans who settle in Nebraska.

Michigan, largest of the states east of the Mississippi River, is a sleeper in this category. It takes 9 hours and 51 minutes, according to Google Maps, to travel from Ironwood, MI (just east of Duluth, MN) to Monroe, MI (just north of Toledo, OH. Going out of state, on the fastest route, through the whole of Wisconsin, and the tops of Illinois, and Indiana, and some of Ohio, it takes another 30 to 45 minutes. Mind you, this is in spring-fall. In the middle of winter you'd have to add 2 or 3 hours. xD
Georgia is about 100 sq miles (10x10mi) larger in landmass but not total area.

I live in Omaha (on the very eastern edge of the state) but my wife's family is in small town called Alliance (About an hour from the western edge, so I'm quite used to the drive across the state: )
Unfortunately I-80 goes straight through the flattest, most stereotypical part of our state. I prefer to take Highway 2, which runs across the state further north and much more scenic! It takes you through the sandhills, which is a very beautiful and unique topography that most outsiders unfortunately never see due to I-80 running south of it.

Hello, just a little piece of advice. If youre driving to Aspen and pass through Nebraska, be clear to not get turned around and backtrack a tad as it is about a 1/6 of the way across the country in the wrong direction! Another piece of advice is to get a gas mileage friendly vehicle. I recommend trading gas guzzling vans for lighter more fuel efficient motor bikes. you can easily get 70mpg on those hogs! Thats all the advice I got for now. Alright, welp see ya later!

If you really wanted the full across the state drive, you should take the exit at Ogallala and follow highway 26 up to the northwest corner of the state. That is were it gets beautiful with the bluffs and wide open spaces. I make the drive from Nebraska City to Scottsbluff about once a month so I know what you're going through with that drive. Check it out if you come back through some time.

Driving across I-80 is the fastest way across Nebraska when you are heading to Colorado or Cali or points west. I-80 is the most BORING drive across. Highway 30 which parallels I-80, is more interesting. Also Nebraska State Highway 2 from Grand Island to Alliance is slow but very pretty. US Highway 20 across the northern part of Nebraska is very nice as well!

I haven't driven through Nebraska for years (or technically, with my parents) since my Aunt and Uncle moved from Colorado over a decade ago. We used to drive to their house once or twice a year and stop in Nebraska for the night. I don't remember much of Nebraska, but I remember how surprisingly desertlike far east Colorado is, for a state known for its mountains.

Well. if you get off the interstate and drive downtown Lincoln, of course it takes 3 hours to go 120 miles. I-80 across Nebraska is 460 miles 75 mph (posted. apparently, if you have Illinois plates they also allow another 15-20 when Eastbound. so, yeah. it isnt that slow a trip if you are really trying to get there.
