Las Vegas Mistakes Every Tourist Makes - Wolters World michelle: ABOUT THE MEMBERSHIP CARD: So what should i do. I want my benefits like everyone does. I want prizes or anything. I know when i visit las Vegas first time for 8 days im going to end up playing a little bit the casino slots. Lets say i was to stay at the Cosmopolitan hotel the centre of Las Vegas. I never been to Las Vegas and i usually travel every 2 or 3 years time to do another trip else where. So should i still sign up for free a special card from the hotel that i stay to? I mean i believe you get all those benefits if you actually return back less then 12 months at the same hotel at the same location. For me i only travel every 2 or 3 years time. So what's the point in sign up special cards from the hotel since those cards are only design for you to make you return anytime less then 12 months time to really get a free prize or a free night stay or anything.
For me if i was to sign up just because im playing the slot machines the card would be useless for me because if I'm visiting Las Vegas first time for 8 days and then i don't return until the next 2 years time. that card i sign up today would be Expired by the time i return back to Las Vegas and i might end up staying at the Bellagio hotel on the next trip.
So what do you think? Its not as if the card all of suddenly your going to get something FREE straight away. your basically adding points into your card when you play slot machines but it takes time to win something or get a free night stay or something like that. So if i was to only spent 400 dollars on the slot machines all random within the 1 to 8 days stay at the cosmopolitan hotel. that card that i insert into the machine might collect points but it would take a long time to see any free stuff. because the short amount of stay 8 or 10 days at Las Vegas might be short lived and i might not even return to Las Vegas until the next 2 years time. I'm from New Zealand.
So i don't live in America you see. I would love free stuff but there you go. is it a must to get one of those free membership cards? I mean those cards are design if u are a regular visitor or u come back many times within the 12 month period. So what's the point in sign up a card since im just a tourist visitor been first time in Las Vegas. Its not as if i have to travel to las Vegas again and again within the next less then 12 months time. I only travel 1 time every 2 or 3 years time. i might return to the same city or might end up going to Europe. So what do you think? But i do want my beneficial prize. whatever i might win. or whatever free stuff i might get from that card.
Just that. i never been to Las Vegas and i plan to stay at the Cosmopolitan hotel it seems that they have those cards for free but the benefit of that is that you collect points and it will expire in 1 year if you don't return. then what's the point in sign up at the hotel since i wont be returning back until the next 2 or 3 years time and perhaps stay at the same hotel or stay at the next door hotel instead. So what do you think? Remember i could be mistaken but those reward cards are ONLY design if you return back to the same hotel in less then 12 months time otherwise your membership card will expire whatever you collected as (points.

A few others:
In regards to the Taxi's, some still do this but others do not. Some will often times take the longest route to your destination in order to get more money out of you (after all, you're a tourist, you don't know the roads) so instead of taking that short two or three mile, they'll extend it to five miles or even six miles and claim that it is due to traffic or some other nonsense.
Another thing is to be careful what you record when you are here, yes you're here to fun and you want to record your adventure but keep in mind that there are things that Casino's don't really tolerate you recording. Slots they don't mind, for the most part; but the tables? Such as Craps, Blackjack, etc? That's another story.
Of course it isn't just the tables. The Cashiers Cage is another area you shouldn't record, the Casino's are pretty protective of the Cashiers and they do not take to kindly to someone cording their actions or what they do behind those bars, so do not be surprised if someone on security walks up and tells you (not asks you, but tells you) to move along. Yes, I used to work in security before Covvy hit, and we've trespassed people for doing that. A panning recording of it is fine but actually walking up to the cage and actively recording people? Yea, that wasn't tolerated.
One last little bit of information, DO NOT ask about October 1st Please. Employees are not allowed to talk about it.

as someone who lived in Vegas for years, I felt the need to point out a few things.
1. don't buy consumables on the strip at all, smokes/food/bottles of water, etc. they charge you way extra on the strip then going to a place off strip and buy it. that is not because they are trying to rip you off, it's because the rent for them being on the strip is so much higher.
2. the all loyalty program, do not sign up for any of those unless you want a ton of junk mail or junk calls/sms coming at you all the time, they do sell your info.
3. if you are using public transportation like the bus system, buying a ticket on the strip would cost you double or more. you can buy a 2 week pass off strip for the same amount that it would cost you like a 2 day pass or something like that, another thing you can do is just download the bus app and buy tickets on your phone, only thing to remember is you need to buy the ticket as residential and not was strip ticket, they are both the same thing other then the prices.

If you are someone who has been to Vegas many times before and are on a budget and mostly want to drink and gamble then I would recommend staying downtown.
You don't get burned out walking from Casino to Casino because they are so close and smaller. The gambling is better and the drinks are much cheaper.
Now with Circa being downtown there is a legit Strip type Casino within walking distance too and it's become a hotspot. You can also take an Uber to the strip one day as well. They are starting to build up downtown to where it is more of a destination now. The mob museum is great too. Just a suggestion.
If it's your first or 2nd trip to Vegas I'd recommend doing the Strip thing.
If you go to Vegas in the Summer and stay on the strip and plan to visit many Casino's it does get very exhausting walking in the heat. Especially if you are out late every night and partying and drinking.

Also signing up for the loyalty cards is another bonus. The cards are being linked to your credit cards, with this maybe for every dollar that you spend on a normal day like for grocery then they might give you 4 reward points. Now this might not sound much but if you add this up over a three month total, then it might add up to a nice size discount for the room. Instead of paying let us say about $600 for the room over 4 days, you might only pay $250 for the room. Only sign up however if you feel like the hotel is a nice fit for your life and family.

A common mistake Ive seen tourists who visit Las Vegas during Halloween weekend is they dont bother to pack a costume with their luggage before arriving to town. They think its easier to get a costume at one of the shops only to find out the costumes are overpriced, low stock and have to wait in long lines to pay. I use to work at a costume shop and cant tell you how many tourists yell at me for the lines being too long or getting angry with me because the store is out of a certain size.

The free drinks issue I had at slots was NO ONE came to do the free drinks. Is it something I'm doing wrong or is it just that particular casino floor wasn't staffed enough? Can't tip if no one comes even for the first time. :( At the time I was getting bored with gambling so the only reason to keep going was the idea of free drinks. Basically I got up and left; probably better financially lol.

This may sound weird but if you gamble over $200 a day, book your room through the hotels website and NOT a travel website. Get a players card and put it in EVERY machine you play or give it to the dealer at EVERY table game you play. I have gotten many rooms comped by doing this! Even if you don't get a room comped there is a very good chance you can get meal vouchers or drink vouchers too.

As someone who lives in las vegas. I reccomend this: if you are going to drink in the morning/noon and have plans to go clubbing at night make sure you go to the room and take a nap and get hyrdrated. Go see the shows. Check out restaurants off the strip aswell. If you have a day you want to chill by a beach check out Quail Creek in Hurricane utah (2 hour drive.

Fridge tip: For hotels that do not provide a fridge for your bevy's. simply call down, ask for one to be brought up and tell them it's for your meds. Regardless if you have meds or not, they will not charge you for it if you tell them it's to store medication. Caesars or MGM properties. Sure fire.
