Hey about the 1 hr mark you started on gear weight, yeah some of your gear is a bit heavy, swapping out for some lighter gear would surely help! Also while you tossed your pack on your back, I noticed the shoulder straps completely in the wrong place. They are attached around the middle of you back, which is not correct for load balancing. If the shoulder straps are adjustable move them up 6-. This will increase pack stability and lower the strain on your body, compensating for the unstable pack.

Robby, I noticed that when you put on your backpack, you tighten your hipbelt while standing upright. Try leaning forward, so that your back becomes a tabletop with your backpack resting on top, and then fastening and tightening your hipbelt while in that position. When you straighten up, the hipbelt should take more of the weight and there should be less weight on your shoulders. I don't know if that will solve your problem entirely, but give it a try.

I am from this area. I live in Rock Island, TN which is about 30 miles or so from there. I have spent my life hiking the gulf. I actually did a similar hike in the 90-s. I saw two rattlesnakes and one really big copperhead on my hike. Also at the sawmill campsite, we were surrounded by coyotes. It was awesome. Loved the video and the editing/music was fantastic! Thanks for sharing your videos with us.

Amazing and beautiful hike. Thanks for sharing gorgeous views and love the thought process going on. I forget important notes or reminders for improvements to gear too. It is funny how quickly you forget how utterly exhausted, cold and miserable you were and how quickly you rush back to it. I think it's called pushing the envelope and you get addicted to doing just that.

Yeah, that backpack does not fit you. The load lifter straps are below you shoulder level. That is not right. You need a longer torso backpack. Also, the newer backpacks are just as tough as the older ones but much lighter. A few years back I switched from my Lowe Alpine Contour III (6 pound 6 ounces) to a Granite Gear Blaze 60 (3 pound 4 ounces) and it's been great.

It would probably take you guys 8-10 days to do the 100 mile wilderness. Many of the through hikers claim that it is the best part of the Appalachian trail. I live just bordering the trail at the start. I live on 300 acres surrounded by the Appalachian trail. I live in a small cabin on the side of a ridge. I would love to have you guys come visit my woods.

Loved the video! Fell in love with watching you guys after watching the Yosemite video! Always interesting and fun to watch you guys. I will definitely have to look up these trails when I-m back in TN! Have you guys put together a -what to pack- video for beginners who might want to do an overnight hike? I would have no idea where to begin.

That trudge is very familiar-
Love seeing the good and bad parts of backpacking
Edit: Also, I hope you've gotten a new pack since then! If you haven't, try going to an outfitter and having them specifically fit one to you. That could help with the slipping and potentially shave off like 4 lbs.

I-ve been watching you guys for a long time! I really enjoy these solo videos. Nice camera work as always. If you-d like to go more ultralight or just check that hiking style out more, let me know. I think we-re nearby- Check out some of my videos, let me know what you think. -
