Glad to see Captain Miles Morgan got to fly the inaugural flight to Greenland. We met him at the United Flight Training Center in Denver on May 9 (he’s the Managing Director, a really nice fellow. I won a slot for 2 people in the United Mileage Plus Exclusives auction for 2 hours in a 737 full motion simulator and 2 hours in an A320 full motion simulator. (Only 682, 000 miles)
I’m thrilled to say my friend Steve and I managed to take off and land at SFO and LAS in both aircraft without crashing. I still get goosebumps thinking about the moment when I was 3 miles away, lined up to land at SFO on autopilot, and the instructor said, Whenever you want to start flying, hit the Autopilot Disconnect button [chirp chirp] and it’s your aircraft! I even got a compliment from the instructor (Kody) on one takeoff: Nice rotation, Bill! (I’m not a pilot. I just watch a lot of aviation videos)
We spent all day at the United FTC. We got to don working life vests, pull the red tab, and climb in a life raft. They put us in a 757 fuselage rigged for evacuation drills, started a simulated flight, then killed the lights, turned on the smoke generator, and said Evacuate! Next was the door room. We got to practice opening every kind of exit on all aircraft types.
It was a remarkable day that I will never forget! A gracious Thank You to all of our United hosts at the FTC.

Very nice! A flight review & a short tour all in 1 package. And thanks for flying Economy class where most of us viewers sit; enough already with the business class teasing, lol. With expensive airfare, tourist services, restaurants and what appear to be limited, if yet unreported, sites of interest, Greenland is a bit expensive to travel to. But Americans & other Westerners have money to pour into Greenland tourism. Wishing the best for Greenland’s growing tourism industry! Hope MacDonalds, 7-11 & Starbucks haven’t already moved in. Tread lightly!

So is this Trump's plan is it get American carriers to fly in so it will easier to get troops in although I suspect the entire EU and world will fight him. I wonder how many in Greenland liked you being there as you are from the country of the idiot no matter what you saw or experienced suspect there was suspicion about both of you. Even if this was in plannning prior perhaps United and you should have mentioned that otherwise it looks very suspicious.

As a cabin crew member on Pan Am 747s flying between Seattle and London, I used to fly over Greenland 6-8 times most months. It was always a treat when the skies were clear enough to see the island below. I became fascinated by Greenland and have since read all I could find about it. Most memorable now are Gretel Ehrlich's stories of the time she spent living with indigenous Greenlanders. I highly recommend them.

Hi Jeb, congratulations on being able to join in this inaugural flight. One point: you mentioned the view of sea ice on a major sea area. This would contradict the weather activists who claim that sea ice is doomed to disappear during the northern spring/ summer. No need to respond, let's just say that I hope you had a great time. Cheers to you both and keep them coming, please

Let me suggest two, not quite out-of-the-way, destinations: Cork, Ireland (ORK) and Basel, Switzerland (BSL, MLH, or EAP. ORK can handle a B752, while BSL has a 12, 000 ft runway. It links important pharma centers with Newark. I’d also like to see United return to Belfast (BFS, now that the EU objections to a subsidy shouldn’t have N impact.

United is one of the worse Airlines. I refuse to fly them anymore. We need to get this US base Airlines to treat it's customers like the EU! Fines on the Airlines and stop offering credit we want cash. This is like We know you think we are the worse airline in the world and do not want to fly us again. Here is a 1000 dollar voucher!

Jeff, one more suggestion for a video: rumor has it that when United takes delivery of its next B789 (N22995, it will be the new, longer range variant with the Polaris suite. I suspect they’ll run it between SFO and LAX followed by some transcontinental jaunts. It would be great to see a review of the enhanced, Polaris seats!

The enshittification of Greenland begins. Now Americans will swarm what was once a beautiful. pristine land and make it worse for locals and respectful visitors. Undoubtedly this is a ploy by the Trump administration to make Greenland less special and more accessible so that he can take it over.

The timing is suspicious. Trump says he wants to take over Greenland and then United starts flights to Greenland. I really wonder how profitable this route really is for United. As for Greenland, hey, it means more revenue so who’s going to turn away extra money

I just watched the episode of Conan without Borders about Greenland. It was shot during Trump's first term when he was trying buy Greenland. Yes, Donny trying this is old news. Well, Conan does a great job and he visits Nuuk, of course. Worth a watch.

I do wonder whether Greenland will become popular like Iceland has: beautiful nature and amazing culture and not the usual holiday destination. Now that Iceland is so popular I think people who are put off by that might want to try Greenland instead.

According to Trump you made a Future national flightvia Canada to Greenlandsad enough that I had to think about it all the time. At least you were not treated like Vance and his wife at their daytrip. Love your content, looking forward for more.

I am hearing also soon flights may go to Iqaluit, Nunavut Canada as it's across the water from Nuuk. Only way there now is from Ottawa. It will be daylight 24 hours with sun on horizon for 2 hours so glad you wore them shades same in Alaska. -Cheers!

This was quite the informative video. I didn’t know about the runway or why the houses were originally so colorful or that puffins can fly. I’d love to do but it is a little steep for my budget now. So thanks for showing me around!

Just going to say that in the current political climate it's not super surprising an american airline is offering this route perhaps as a way of trying to build stronger ties with Greeland by encouraging more american tourism.
reply

I love seeing places that are off the beaten path. When I've travelled internationally, I've usually tried to visit small towns and places no one in the U. S has ever heard of. Thanks for showing us a bit of Nuuk!

I instantly recognised the menu when you went to A Hereford Beefstouw. They have restaurants all around Denmark, but more importantly there is one here in Adelaide, South Australia. Phenomenal steak house!

I live in Qaqortoq, Greenland and I'm super excited about the flights opening between Nuuk and the USA! I always have to go through 'CPH Denmark to go home in the USA. So super stoked.
reply

There is no direct flight for an american airline to VIE. I know Austrian is partner with UNITED, but it is strange an american legacy airline will fly to Greenland instead of Vienna.
