Venice, Italy: St. Mark's Basilica feenix00: Definitely one of my top favorite basilica in Italy. The time of day I went made the interior of the basilica very dark and atmospheric, with only points of light coming from the dome to dimly light the glittering mosaics inside. Spectacular. :)

All that marble and sculpture on the facade of st marks is the result of Venices shameful participation in the 4th crusade, where they sacked Constantinople and either destroyed or looted just about all of its artistic treasures
