Join me and my Dad as we spent 2 days at the bushcraft camp building a bushcraft shelter. We finish building the perimiter walls, build a bench from oak and ash, and I also make a meat smoker from sticks using basic bushcraft skills. The new bushcraft camp and shelter has been an adventure and a challenge. The massive bole of the 100-yrs-old ash tree was quite a challenge to fit into anything. There is no substitute for a good heavy tarp as a waterproof layer for a shelter. It is almost 'one and done. ' Wind, rain and snow are kept to almost acceptable levels. or better. There is a massive saving in build time. I am less thrilled with topping the tarp with a loose, leafy camouflage tarp/netting. That step seems to call for natural materials from the local environment.

Camp is looking good. even if the tarp is not ideal as far as looks go helping to keep things dry is more important I think. Once you put up the camo netting it'll look better. Filling in the gaps of the wall I think would be a priority to help stop wind and rain from blowing in from those sides. Still early spring and I can guess it can still get a bit chilly from time to time yet.

Not to be a downer or a know-it-all, but is there a danger with using a plastic tarp for smoking I really dont know, but i would be worried about off-gassing. I know its a danger with other materials and usually at higher temperatures, but i still wonder if its a worry here.
Regardless, i really enjoy these videos. I love the work that goes into bushcrafting.

Really enjoyed today’s 2-part video! Always a pleasure to see you and your dad working together and, of course, Jaxx just makes my dad. He’s such a little cutie and who says NO to that face, eh Can’t wait until next week’s adventure and the camp is really taking shape! Take care, stay safe, and I’ll be here on the next one! e

If I hadn't seen that this was yours on the screen, I would have guessed that it was by style. You build strong structures that could stay standing a long time and it's fun to see - imagine staying in one. Good to see your supervisor on the job too.

Here in south Africa we dont smoke meat. Instead we soak it in a salt, spice, and brown vinegar marinade before air or wind drying it. The result is a delicious dried meat called Biltong. Also when are you building the scout tower

I just had a crazy idea. if soup is too soupy. crush saltine crackers into it.
if you are going to use nails, get a spool of iron tie wire.
Get a wireless remote meat thermometer if you are going to smoke food.

The floor under the shelter seems muddy.
What would you do if you had to sleep there under rain
Would you put a plastic sheet on the floor or could there be another way of sleeping on a dry floor
