Cooking Steak on the Grill at The Bushcraft Camp - Log Cabin Fire, Wood Splitting.

I head to The Bushcraft Camp in the Forest to cook some Steak on the campfire. This time I used the Log Cabin fire method to get a good bed of cooking coals before putting the 21-day matured Steak on the Grill. Whilst the steak cooks I get the billy can boiling ready for some fresh coffee. As Dad is with me on this one, we took some time splitting wood for the log store ready for the cold winter. We then set the HD trail camera to try and record deer and wild game that roam the forest

That is a German boy scout knife, it was repurposed for the Hitler youth as a dagger with a nazi swastika in the place of the fleure de lis. It has nickel plating and rivets, the black plating is of Bakelite. The finger guard is in place because when stabbing it stops your hand from shooting upwards and running along the edge of the blade. Yours specifically looks like a 1930's-1940's German Hubertus Solingen Linder MesserSurvival Boy Scout bowie knife. this knife was most probably manufactured in Solingen Germany, which is well-known for their cutlery and knife making skills. If it was manufactured before world war II it would be made of a steel based metal, if it was during or closely before the war it would be made of a pot-based metal. Hope this helps

The fleur de Lys is a scouting symbol, familiar all over the world. Further on-line research shows the knife to be a rarity in scouting equipment: the blade is a complex carbon steel alloy; the pattern IS Hitler Youth, except that the scabbard is very different. The Boy Scouts emblem is fitted exactly into the space in the scales where the Hitler Youth symbol would have gone. B. Svoboda, Solingen, Germany is credited with assembling 'Liberated' knife parts after World War II. At that point, the company was owned by a California firm. Perhaps 'Whitby' acquired similar parts and marketed them in Great Britain. The result is a decent slicing knife for all around camp use. And. Mike's dad probably got the whole thing for a bargain price

First of all, Congratulations Mike Next, you can't go wrong with Solingen steel Graeme, good all round knife. As you said. that symbol is the fleur de lis which was the symble for France pre revolution, hence it being on the quartered british royal flag of that time. it has been used as a decoration on many things. It certainly has no connection with the Hitler youth. Just because a blade is made in germany does not make it a nazi symbole as another comment suggested. keep up the good work

Your dads German Bowie knife is a smaller version of a military machete/sword, they were first made to use in hand to hand combat but are know used more for bushcraft as they are a good substitute to choppers, the finger guard is usually a full hand guard but for some reason on your knife they chopped it off, I couldnt tell you for the life of me what steel that is though. Hope you guys found this helpful

I have to say I enjoyed every bit of this vid EXCEPT for the part where you outrageously insulted those fine steaks with that insipid air paste commonly referred to as white bread. If you didn't want to use a heartier bread, surely, you could have at least graced it with some sort of artisan bread. You must be very pleased that your structures stood up to the fury of Ophelia. Good job

Your Dad's knife is one made in Solingen Germany for the Whitby Knife Company which I believe was founded in 1961 by Major WHITBY. It only bears similarities to the Hitler Youth Knife in the handle shape as the HJK had a spear point blade not the Bowie type. They would have been made for Whitby after 1961 and possibliy to his specs.

Hey guys, looks like a WW2 Dagger / bayonet. Definitely a replica. It is made in Solingen Germany which should be very high quality as Solingen is the knife capital of Germany. The hook you ask about is to stop you from slipping and cutting yourself. A lot of the WW1 and WW2 knives had that feature. Beautiful knife.

12: 22 Yes I would assume it's made for close combat fighting. What most people don't realize is if your in a situation where it comes down to a knife fight, your hand will eventually slip and you'll cut yourself. Hence the guard is there to stop that from happening if you'd ever find yourself in such a situation.

Its not blood. :p A good thing to know for those a bit ehh about the blood coming out of steaks and such (red meat. Its mostly water, and a protein called myoglobin in the muscles, that makes it red. The more rare you cook it, the more color is contained. Oxygen-rich-protein-water. :D This is a brief explanation of it. :)
