Thatched Roof Medieval Roundhouse Build: ROOF FINISHED Bushcraft Project (PART 9)

The bushcraft medieval roundhouse roof is now thatched! Join us in the woods as we finish building the roof of the roundhouse, thatching it with water reed and then making a combed straw (long straw) cap to cover the ridge of the bushcraft shelter and make it completely waterproof. It was sketchy work, using the old wooden ladder to climb the roof of the celtic roundhouse and secure the thatch to the timber frame. We get a big fire going and cook up a feast in cast iron dutch ovens

I love your videos. Been watching them for quite some time now. But guys, as a Texan I am just saddened at calling that Chili. Ha. That was what I would call bean chowder. Real Texas chili (Where chili was invented) has no beans, and no real veggies. Only beef, tomato, chili spices, water, and onion. What you made looks tasty, but it isn't chili. Now, that bread looked fantastic. Keep building cool stuff. You guys are awesome.

Your thatching has improved! Not that the other was bad, but your experience shows! This roundhouse is a handsome structure. I'd live in it! I wish there was a way to preserve the beauty of the lower weaving before the mud layer, although that also has a charm of it's own. Truly a marvelous structure!
P. S. Our ancient ancestors used stream to bend wood. Fascinating build!

today I learned that Tritcale is a real word and not something made up in Star Trek as a food Tribbles would eat. Quatrotritcale Or as Captain Kirk would call it. WHEAT.

Edit: Aw! That's a first. Mike's turn to cook for both of them. The roof is great. Kudos to both of you Mike and Dustin.

Just anoys me that if all bushcrafters were to stop cutting live young trees it would help a very little with globel warming
