We show you how to catch and cook black bream. How to clean, gut and fillet fish, start a fire bushcraft style using a primitive bowdrill (friction fire. Using various fishing techniques, Graeme shows you how to catch Black Sea Bream (Spondyliosoma cantharus. Using light tackle, a swimfeeder and some chum, you catch this fish with small squid bait on the ocean floor. They are a summer time species here in the UK. They are one of the best eating fish in British Waters. You can pan fry, bake, grill and more. The best way to eat this fish is whole, either pan fried or baked. Graeme then shows you how to prepare the fish for cooking on a campfire. How to descale the fish with a knife and then wash and clean it. I start a fire using a primitive bowdrill method, a key wilderness survival skill to have, and one that you should learn should you end up in a survival situation it might just help you out. I used a pine hearthboard, a hazel spindle and a sycamore bearing block. I also used a piece of birch bark as an ember pan and a length of silver birch stick for the bow. I then blew the ember into a flame using dead grass as a tinder bundle. To cook the fish, I stuffed the body cavity with herbs. Using Chives, Thyme, Lemon, Salt & Pepper and a light sprinkling of olive oil. I then wrapped it in kitchen foil and cooked it over the fire. It tasted incredible

omg had that canoe trip i mentioned about a month back. it was a catastrophic failure. torrential rains had flooded the riversomeone had went missing a few days earlier (like presumed dead, missing)we went anyway. we lost the canoe, and a bit of food and gear, but everyone survived. sometimes you want a relaxing vacation, and you get an adventure. sometimes you are humbled by the not-so-subtle reminder that your not always the top of the food chainsometimes your several hundred dollar custom knife is lost into the river, and you have to make some tools with sticks only. barefoot, and bloody, walking through an acre of tick and snake infested land to get to a road. my wife and i are a bit closer now. so thats. good? and i now have the badge of wrapped a non-motorized vehicle around a treeso yeah, figured id update anyone who saw the last post, enjoy the woods, relax if you can, but know that the wilderness is not your living room, and it can get you.

Curious why Europeans are so down on aluminum lately. Survival Lilly actually said she didnt use aluminum water bottles because they were toxic. Pretty sure aluminum is not toxic. As to the Alzheimers link, that is some dubious science and I think the jury is still out on that. Millions literally millions of people consume food/liquids in contact with aluminum every day. Does cooking in it make things worse? Dont know but considering there is also aluminum cookware, again, I think as humans we have much more to worry about.

There's no scientific evidence that there is any link between aluminium and Alzheimer's/dementia, or any major illness. It was a myth from the late 60s / early 70s that never led to any evidence of it contributing at all. Saying Yes there's a link between. without doing any research leads to misleading people who trust your otherwise capable knowledge. We live in a digital age, you can look this information up on your smartphone. please don't spread pseudo-science, it's incredibly dangerous.

Another great 'catch and cook' I believe you cooked the fish perfectly, the meat was flaky and moist and the bone structure stayed together; yet it lifted easily and cleanly away from the carcase. That double layer of foil did the job REAL CLINICAL studies consider that aluminum is very common in the soil. Measurements have shown that little leaches out of cookware. In normally healthy humans, aluminum is cleared from our system though our kidneys. Yet, valetudinarians will worry.

I hate to say this but you have a classic mistake on your fire starting stance. Your body should be upright with your left arm straight so that you can put upper body pressure on your bearing block. The way that you are doing it reduces the amount of available friction to the hearth board and is subject to the fatigue of your left arm. You'll have an ember pretty quickly doing it this way. Sorry for the bad news, mate.

I know it's a lot easier, and you don't have to be too clever to use it, but rather than take and make bow, spindle, bits of wood, what about a couple of cigarette lighters? less space needed less weight, less frustration, and if your going to the 1 man humpy you could leave a whole box of fire lighters there yes, I know it's all about doing it the hard way and make the hard way look easy -D love the vids,

This did it for me, I'm Subing to Dad's Ch. this instant. I should have done it long ago. Bet I've been missing some invaluable info and entertainment Right, off I go then, & Catch Ya on the flip #1. As Always, Blessings from Oregon, . Mike.

Good stuff Mike. As a chef i have a ton of ways that i cook fish, though some foil, herbs, lemon, salt, pepper, and butter is still my favorite while outdoors. Maybe some mixed veg, and some fingerling potatoes to go with it. Its really coming together and looking comfortable at the pallet wood cabin. Good luck on your next vid. Excited to see what you come up with in regards to venison.

I don't know if you will read this but I use the same bearing system but I use a rollerblade wheel. I also cut out a divot in the wheel so I can use it as a pulley for shifting things that are uncomfortable to carry short distances. Bit of paracord fits nicely in the divot and some cord and a bolt hold the wheel. Love your vids, you do the world a service.

Love the video by the way. Your Dad is so funny. When are you going to plant that garden?
