I travel from LHR to BKK on Thai at least 2 or 3 times a year In First Class. I Always take the lunchtime flight from Heathrow and the midnight flight back. Firstly let me say Thai are the most annoying airline for changing aircraft and more recently their A380's are going technical. When I flew with them on their older 747's they had the older seats which were nowhere as good as the updated seats on the flight you took. Furthermore, the seats and configuration is much better on the A380. I also dispute they have noise cancelling headphones on their aircraft? I have found they either do not work or the video system packs up. This happened no less than 3 times on previous flights where I was compensated. It was a tough call which flight would you have taken? I think you chose wisely because who wants to spend the night with no sleep even if its their Royal First Lounge.

Ever wonder why carriers in US dont do this? Ill tell you why. GREED I wont fly across the pond on a US carrier if I can avoid it and I only fly Delta in the states as thats the last of what is good. Such a shame what has happened. I was a Flight Attendant for the, then USAir, in the 80s and 90s and it was an entire different time when you flew in FC domestic, I dont care how long or short the flight was, you received a Level # service and it was always nice, even with a fresh flower. Today you have to fly up to or over there hours to be feed and treated like a First Class passenger. I know I took very good of my passengers in First as well as in the back as they were our bread and butter. today they could care less. and that is sad. But I am glad to have been a part of it. Take a Q here your US greedy companies

Would I wait? Do I HAVE to get where I'm going? Am I on a strict schedule? In the lounge area where I would be waiting for 8 hours, is there a bathroom close by? ( I am gifted with a tiny, weak bladder) Is there a lounge chair so I can get my legs up? WiFi? A place to haul out my laptop and tablet? Hmmmm. Better yet, just get me on a plane going anywhere, and spare the lounge staff the torment. ;)The heat and humidity have been dreadful in Ontario this month. There have been forest fires in Northern Ontario, as well as in other parts of Canada. All of our igloos are melting So to see the SNOW on the ground at Munich, THAT'S surreal I know the trip was taken in February, but the reminder of cold and snow.

Oh, boo hoo, Dr. LTE. You know I adore you and your videos, but in this case I do not feel very sorry for you. You were able to get a flight to Munich an hour after your cancelled flight's departure time. Flying Munich to Paris = not much (or euros, in your case. And did you stay in Paris? I don't believe I've ever seen any LTE Paris hotel videos. A couple of years ago it took me 9 hours to get from Las Vegas to LAX to SFO due to technical problems. I am fine with flight cancellations due to technical problems. Safety first--lol. I'm just grateful I do not have to travel by foot, horseback, covered wagon or sailing ship like my ancestors--brave souls. Ok, I'm done giving you a hard time: -)

Your 8 hour delay to Paris un-earth's the potential hazards of flying to Europe on a non-European Carrier. Thai should really have provided rest accommodation for such a long delay and if you had flown by BA for example you would have been treated quite differently, irrespective of class as Europe Community compensation would have applied. A Friend of mine was stuck in Bangkok four days during the Icelandic volcano eruption and Thai provided nothing. BA and Qantas provided Hotel accommodation, meals and expenses throughout the that period to all passengers. The Lady vowed never to fly Thai again and has kept to it. I'm sure many others must have done the same.

Another excellent videoWhat would I do? It depends. First of all shit happens and it's better to be on the ground when it does. For me, numerous factors. 1. What/Where did I need to be the next day - work/vacation? 2. What did they offer you for the 8 hours, hotel room and a meal or as a 1st Class pax back to the lounge? 3. Cash compensation or coupon? Or points? 4. Since you exited and then could have re-entered the lounge, another 1-hour treatment? 5. And finally one extra night in Bangkok can be way more fun than one first night in Munich (if that's your thing)You admitted you had booked that flight for the A380, so probably you should have waited IMO.

An exquisitely presented trip report. I can understand how disappointed you must have been that the A380 had technical difficulties, but I feel this was compensated by such wonderful First Class service in the B747. The Business cabin looked impressive also. I have seen this layout before and think that the idea of having a galley on the other side of the wall is very good. Incidentally, what you chose for your main meal was exactly what I would have chosen. We both must have fantastic 'taste'. Thanks once again for sharing this top notch report. (PS: the temperature difference between Thailand and Munich must have come as a bit of a shock.

9: 22 Yes, the flights from Thailand to USA became unprofitable for the A-340 series aircraft. An investment in A350s or 787s could potentially restore direct USA flights, but Thai Airways lost permission to fly into the USA after the US FAA downgraded their safety rating to level 2. I believe the USA action was/is a form of quiet sanctions from the US after the Thai military leader imposed martial law and dismissed the Thai democratic government. I believe the US FAA will continue to prevent Thai Airways from flying to the USA until democratic elections begin taking place in Thailand once again.

Thai Air will always have a special place in my heart. It is the airline i flew to the United States when immigrated here in 94. I don't recall the specific plane, most likely a 747 since it was an overseas flight from Korea to LA. I was just a little kid, barely 6 years old. I have a winged pin from that flight but don't remember if a crew member gave it to me, or if it was a kid's pin they had as a souvenir. Anyways, good to see Thai air is still going strong in today's competitive market.
