On November 20, 2016, a powerful storm hit the English Channel, causing hurricane force winds in Belgium. I was onboard this British Airways Airbus A320 flight, which tried to land at the height of the storm. It was the scariest landing in my life. Have you ever experienced a scary moment on a plane? The very first time I boarded an airplane was I think in 1975. The Bahamas (Nassau, here I come. I guess you won't be surprised if I tell you that, prior to my flight, friends had a number of excited jokes to tell me about the Bermuda Triangle, and I would be lying to you if I said that I didn't think about it once on the plane (as luck would have it, I had a window seat and the flight was taking place in the dark of the night. I flew a whole lot in my lifetime, and I never had a scary flight, not even close to it. Anyway, things were going just fine until I thought I was hearing noises, apparently coming from the wing. I didn't say a word to the old man next to me, but I certainly started to get fidgety. and I think it showed. In 1975, flight attendants didn't see any problem in offering a glass (or two) of scotch to a nervous person (the good old 70s) I kept hearing the noises, and they kept trying to reassure me, and the scotch finally did its work. There were some noises, still, but I didn't really give a damn anymore. I was relaxing (and so was the old man on my right, until the damn noises became a bit too much. This time, I was absolutely sure that something was very, very wrong, and no amount of scotch and no cute smiles from cute flight attendants would change my mind. Something was wrong I mustered my drunk courage, looked through the window. and there he was, that freaking monster, standing on the wing The old man was a cop, so I picked up his gun and shot the bastard dead (the monster, not the old man. I did a brief stint in a psychiatric wing at the hospital, but ever since, thanks to me, flying over the triangle has been a charm for everyone else.

Id say the scariest time Ive been on a plane was in MCO (orlando) arriving at DTW (Detroit. So we were about to clear for takeoff but then all of a sudden they just bring the plane back to the gate, and then the pilots make an announcement saying Orlando is currently under a ground stop right now due to the weather here (basically a ground stop is when any flights are not allowed to depart or and flights coming into the area were not allowed to land because mostly of weather issues) so then like 30 minutes later the weather gets worse. The clouds are dark grey and were almost black. So they were planned to fly out east into the Atlantic Ocean to escape the thunderstorm rolling in, but the scariest thing was the takeoff. First as soon as it started, the plane started shaking up and down over and over and it scared the living hel out of me, then the plane is getting into the air, its still shaking, and when I looked out the window, it looked like the plane was gonna come back down and crash because it didnt look like it would make it up in the air as much. But as soon as we make it to Detroit like 2 hours late (Landing at about 4PM EST) the weather was beautiful. 80 degrees and sunny skies. Home sweet home.

Flying from Edinburgh to Amsterdam a few years back we got caught in a snowstorm over the Dutch coast. Due to the weather, our runway was changed at Schipol. We were getting thrown around with the turbulence and then eventually made our approach to the runway. The snow was so bad, it made visibility almost nil. a pure whiteout. Then the pilot aborted landing and back up in the storm we went. Tge same thing happened on our second attempt, however, at this point the captain anounced they had problems with the indication for the landing gear. The lights which show gear down did not function. We cleared the Dutch coast and dumped fuel. Then, several attempts by the captain to lift and lower the gear resulted in the light coming on. Eventually on our third approach we landed safely. Most of the folks on board were flying on business. Hardly anyone made a sound all through it. Probably used to these issues. My wife and I travel lots, but that was one hell of a flight.

Yes we took off from Tunisia in a sand storm we had three abandoned take offs we turned around and took off on the fourth attempt the whole plane shook it was terrifying My husband refused to fly again the following year I got him a days course at Manchester airport fly with confidence course and yes I was very surprised we booked a holiday he wasnt happy he refused to eat and drink from Manchester to Cyprus but coming home he was fine and no issues since But I love to fly and do internal hops from Manchester to London but that day in Tunisia I thought we were going to die, I never told him I was just as terrified It was just awful

Scariest flight I had was a landing at the old Pittsburgh airport flying one of the first Boeings with the electronic flap systems and we had a motor go out on final. The pilot had a less than controlled landing and the plane was barreling down the runway. He finally got it stopped in the grass at the end of the runway. We had to be pulled back in order to go to the gate. They had to bring in a mechanical crew from another city and worked on the plane for several hours and made a couple of practice takes off and landings with only the flight crew and a mechanic before reboarding us to Toronto.

On my very first commercial flight, there were two go-arounds. I was sitting by the window and couldn't see anything, the fog was so thick. The only indications of the go-arounds were: a sudden increase in G-force, a rapid change of the direction and the roaring engines. Apart from that, I had no sense of After the second go-around, the captain said that we were running out of fuel and that we would try landing at another airport, should the weather allow it. Fortunately, my next experiences were much better.

When I was young (pre-teen, I was flying solo to and from P. R. I remember going to the bathroom and turbulence hitting while I'm trying to take a piss. Needless to say, I was falling over all the bathroom, pee flying everywhere. it was like a scene from a comedy movie. I even got pee on the walls and myself. When I was finally able to stand up enough to leave the bathroom, I tried walking back to my seat and fell on 3 people, with pee on my clothes. It was crazy, but I think about it now, and it's hilarious Lol

I was on a plane once, as we were just about to land smoke poured out of the left engine and the pilot pulled up and went around again, i couldn't believe it, we must of been in the air a good twenty minutes panicking like hell until we eventually lined up for a second landing, even the crew were sweating, as the clouds weakened we could see through the window one of the flaps was missing which brought on a few screams from the passengers, and then, damn I've forgotten.

My first flight ever, take-off was amazing, cruise was smooth, but the descent OMG As soon as we got below the clouds, it got SO nerve-wrackingly bumpy with repetitive roller-coaster ups & downs. Turned out there were 45mph crosswinds due to a Nor'easter off the Mid-Atlantic coast. But the crew plopped that birdie firmly onto the runway. Other fliers said that was among their bumpiest descents ever. Figures, my first descent had to be a doozie.

Singapore airlines into Manila, stormy low clouds, we took a LONG time to come out of the clouds and when we did we were already over the apron with cross winds. Almost on the ground when the pilot decided to floor it and head for the clouds. Everyone was crapping themselves, I stayed quite calm surprisingly. Big round of applause when we touched down at the 2nd attempt. I was more scared getting really bad turbulence coming over the Himalayas.
