South African Airways A340-600 Business Class Cape Town to Jo'burg James M. Taylor: ETOPS Restrictions? Come on dude And i supose ur trying to appear as if your knowledable about aviation--and msybe you are on some aspects but you saying that buffet was decent--worst ive ever seen and if inpaid biz or fc money i would be PISSED BAD. But the ETOPS comment was strike 2 and 3. Airlines havent had ETOPS restrictions or considerations since this aircraft was flying--I think as i dont think this is a thirty or so year old design but perhaps it is, im mostly ignorant about Airbus Aircraft but im pretty sure the 340 is younger than the 767 and they havent had ETOPS considerations since those newer generation of ultra high bypass engines. Created such unprecidented power and increased average time between failures that ETOPS was done away with for aircraft from that point forward. Plus another thing the 767 could fly just fine at altitude, even take off and climb to altitude on a single engine with ease. so with that combined with the huge efficiency increase no aircraft that were previously bound by ETOPS to fly ta or tp. routes with three or more engines would stay on those routes anyway which explains why the dc10. MD 11 and L1011s disappeared so suddenly--one day everywhere the next only fedex flying them. Anyway. much better to keep mouth shut and have people think you might be a moron that open it and remove all doubts so my version of the saying goes. I would have bet you had absolutly no idea what the ETOPS restrictions actually were and what was required. You didn t know theyre gone thirty years or in that neighborhood after they were. And yes technically still apply before you go there IF there were ANY corparate or commercial aircraft that operated engines 3, 4 or more generations back now, back in the High Bypass days before Ultra High Bypass Ultra Reliable Ultra Powerful engines became standard even on the oldest planes operating today. Just makes zero sense for anyone to operate really old technologies.

Excellent video in every respect. I have one comment re your interpretation of the livery of SAA, it is based on the South African flag, not the idea of the rainbow nation. Individually the six colors of the South African flag have no meaning, but black, yellow and green are the colors of the African National Congress, whereas red, white and blue represent colonial European flags and those of historical Boer republics. The sun in the SAA tail is a reference to the fact that SA promotes itself as sunny South Africa.

That seat had hanging threads, you'd never see that on Cathay or Swiss etc business class. Aircraft Maintenance at SAA is a big concern, I won't fly with them because it is only a question of time before one goes down. A close friend is a senior tech at SAA and he was told to shut up or he will be fired after he raised safety issues on the maintenance side. He is in his final interview stages for Emirates now. Fly at your own risk with this lot.

This is only the second video of yours that I have seen, your style is excellent, no commentary / narration, I really feel that I am there experiencing the journey And what a journey, that food has to be the worst business class product I have every seen in 30 years of flying Keep up the great work, looking forward to your next videos. I also like it that you are interested in the aircraft and give interesting facts about them.

You are a very lucky man to get to travel a lot. Given that you have a fear of flying, it didn't stop you to do what you love. And thank you for sharing all your travel with us. Watching your videos gives us a glimpse of what its like in the other parts of the world. I am hoping for a travel video of you to the Philippines and a review of the Philippine airlines as well. Cant wait for you next videos

I've only just got into aviation in the last few months which is why I'm commenting over a year late. Lounge looks really cool and the flight looks really nice, enjoyed watching it. Close to the British Airways B747 is a small orange plane, I'm interested know what airline that is and where it had come from/ where it was going. No worries if you didn't know or can't remember just thought I'd ask

interesting that the main landing gear tilts backward and the middle landing gear tilts forward. Didn't know that Airbus stopped production of the A340 i always thought that it was fuel efficient plane. good to know. wonder how come South Africa is know as the rainbow nation? I agree the food itself and presentation was lacking a bit. Looked like a smooth landing. nice video

I lived in Cape Town for almost 3 years and traveled to Durban and up as far as Mozambique (as it was known then. When I first arrived in Capetown before getting a house in Milnerton, I stayed at the De Vaal Stransito for a month Is that hotel still there I wonder. It was the best in the city at the time. Capetown is the most beautiful city I've ever seen. And I've seen a few.

Hey love your vids but the fact you put in at 4: 10 is just wrong. An original b747 flew 427 passengers the a340-600 only 379, a 747-8 can now fly 467 And the fact of the cargo is something that I cannot attain to but almost every plane these days has more cargo capacity compared to the og 747. I am sorry if I come off as a jerk. Just wanted to keep you on your toes.
