OMAHA: Touring The World's Best ZOO - Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium As someone born and raised a local, Im glad you had a great time at our zoo. I feel old as I say this, but I remember when the desert dome was being made. When they had the structure all set up, they let the public in to see what exhibits they had. And in the entry, they had a model of what it was going to be like, it was awesome.
I remeber in the nocturnal exhibit area, my brother and I had an unfortunate encounter with this old lady. We had costumes on, because it was halloween. I wanted to scare my brother, who used the elevator to go down. I tried to hide in a near pitch black shadow using my black cape to cover me. I jumped out at them, only scaring this lady who came down with the rest of my group. Then in the swamp area, my brother saw someone and tapped their shoulder to scare them, thinking it was me. Guess who it was, THE SAME LADY I SCARED!
Also, little upsidedown jelly, what are ya doing Ive never seen them float like that, what are ya doin dude

I grew up in Omaha and I love this zoo.
By the way what you called a bush baby is 100% not a bush baby from what I can tell it is an African Springhare. There might have been a bush baby in the exhibit and you just didn't see it, because there are sometimes multiple animals in one exhibit. So you have to make sure that you're looking at the right one when you say, this is a animal name here.
Anyways. My favorite part of the zoo is the bayou and me kingdom of the nights exhibit as well as the jungle which is by far the best part of the entire zoo just because of how immersive it is The Kingdom of the nights bayou is pretty great too I would say it's one of the more immersive ones there too I don't think there is a zoo that's as immersive as Omaha's Henry doorly zoo

you went the opposite direction we normally do. we normally go to the right first get the jungle, aquarium, African grasslands, Asian high lands, Madagascar, cut through gorilla valley take the elevator up then do the desert dome. less walking up hills that way. sometimes on another trip we walk to the north end do the zoo go to the big play area head down th the Alaskan bay ride the carosal, do the splash pad area, do a round trip on the train hit up the sea lions and cut through grollia valley to take the elevator up. the nort area of the zoo is more for kids so I see why it wasn't included in this video but the Alaskan bay area is themed beautifully.

I also have to say. To really appreciate the WHOLE zoo, you might want to consider touring it over a few days. You don't realize it while walking but it is huge and has gotten much bigger since I was a child, so if you want to really enjoy all the attractions, especially the larger ones like the savannah area, the big cat area, the indoor jungle and the desert, it's hard to do it all in one day (especially in oppressive Omaha summers. Please do come back; I'm sure it'll be even better. Maybe they will rebuild the polar bear exhibit!

Love your video. This zoo is credited, they have to comply with a high standard to keep their credibility. The animals are their top priority at these places have to keep them happy and healthy and it shows. The exhibits are well designed and the cost to put in every little detail can top over 10 thousand dollars. I know a zoo owner, and it takes a ton of dedication to be a zoo keeper, zoo vet and lot's of knowledge to do what they do. Thank you for sharing.

I hope you had a chance to visit the Lied Jungle while you were in the zoo. as far as I know the worlds largest indoor rainforest. It's amazing in there and has alot of free roaming animals about. Spider monkeys, macaws, bats, miscellaneous birds which I can't quite recall names of, i believe cappuchin monkeys as well. Also, numerous exhibit animals such as pygmy tapirs, otters, massive fish, crocodilians, and the list goes on and on.

It definitely is one of the top zoo's. The constant construction has really put a damper on things. The swamp is really awesome. One really cool zoo is the Como Zoo in Minnesota. It's not very big but well done with awesome exhibits. The St Louis Zoo also is pretty awesome. San Diego Zoo was beautiful but wasn't near as cool as Omaha.

I'm also a local and that zoo is a brutal one day trip you definitely need a couple days to enjoy all of it without getting too sore. It's like all Hills LOL. Also you're giving me a new appreciation for it because it's been awhile since I went with all the new exhibits all updated and once this heat dies down I'm so excited to get back

I've loved going to the Henry Doorly my whole life. Used to work on staff when I was younger. It makes me sad how many people don't know how beautiful the zoo is, so I really hope this video spreads and intrigues animal lovers to come see the best zoo around!

I've spent more time at this zoo than I have anywhere else outside of home. I know several of the zookeepers and have sold coral to some of the top people in the aquarium that now proudly sit in displays.
The absolute BEST zoo out there

I'm an artist, omaha native, and I worked to carve the rocks and paint the murals in the desert dome and kingdom of the night exhibits. The handprints in the murals. mine! Tiffany
ps. bring skittles for the gorillas

The pig is a javelina or collared peccary native to the southwest US. What you called a bush baby is a springhare, a rabbit-like African rodent. The bush baby is a small, nocturnal arboreal primate. You must have missed it.

A native here, when the kingdom of the nights first opened the floating walkways moved when you walked on them. That didn't last long, I'm sure it terrified a whole lot of people. I personally thought it was great!

One of my favorite places, I have had a membership for 20 years and we got quite a bit. It’s easy to run in and see a few attractions then head home or go to the IMAX. Thank you for doing a video on it.

my dad and brother work in construction and are always working on the new exhibits for the zoo they always show me pictures of all the new stuff they are adding I'm proud of their hard work paying off
reply

The thing that looks like a pig in the
Sonoran Desert is a Javelina, a teeny one. I regularly saw them in the wild, some of them stood next to my car and looked me in the eye. They are MEAN

My family always keeps a pass to this zoo its truly a great place to have around! Especially when you homeschool like me! They are constantly expanding and making things better for the animals!
reply

Omaha Represent! But in all honesty it's cool to see a video like this. I know they try very hard to make it the best zoo in the world. And in my totally unbiased opinion, it is.
reply

As a lifelong Omaha and I appreciate you sharing one of our most wonderful attractions with the world. Thank you for highlighting our wonderful zoo and all it has to offer!
reply

You're joking right My entire life I've only gone to this zoo and it's cool but I don't get why it's regarded as the best or top tier lol.
Are zoos in other places that bad

reply

I must insist that you visit the sandhills. Which is the greatest intact prairie on earth. Beautiful land. Beautiful skies. Beautiful people. Valentine is a good hub.
reply

Most definitely not any Bush baby I have ever seen. Bush babies are from Africa, and have big dark circles around the eyes. This must be a new kind of Bush baby LOL
reply

As a local person that has lived in omaha my whole life the zoo is always changing and the main priority’s are the animals and make sure that they are happy!
reply

Best zoo I have ever gone too, over 300 times, and been to many in the US. 60 bucks you paid, that's a single ticket at the San Diego zoo at this point.
reply

Sorry that Zoo sucks, Can't see anything behind the cages/bars, and all you can hear is the kids yelling. Go to America's best zoo, the San Diego zoo
reply

I haven't gone recently, but I used to go a ton. I have never seen it this busy, or maybe I just didn't go during normal zoo time, not sure! Haha.
reply

As many times as I’ve been to that zoo, it’s like there’s always something you haven’t seen before and it’s always getting bigger
reply

One time I was in the gorrila exhibit and one of the gorrilas was sitting on the glass domes you can go in, so I got to stand under a gorrila
reply

Between Omaha and San Diego zoo they are by far the 2 world's best zoos. definitely a must see for everyone if they live in the u. s
reply

I live in the Omaha area and we are justly proud of our Zoo. Best in the world Opinions actually vary, but certainly in the top 5.
reply

This is my favorite zoo I have visited, even better than St. Louis and San Diego. One of my favorite things was the giant octopus.
reply

Wow! Looks like lots of cool new things since I’ve been there last. I guess I have to make it down there sometime. Great vid.
reply

Feels good to know our zoo is still #1. I thought I had heard a long time ago that Atlanta topped us with their new zoo.
reply
