SIOUX FALLS: How Run Down Is South Dakota's Biggest City This Is What We Found In 2016 I worked for a Construction company in Perth, Western Australia. The company won a contract to build a new stadium for the city, and as the Client (the WA State Government) specified the best of the best superscreens (Jumbo-Trons); as Daktronics make the best superscreens in the world, thats what we ended up going with, however the procurement process meant flying over to South Dakota and inspecting them before purchase (they cost several 10s of millions of dollars) - thats when I was introduced and got to visit Sioux Falls.
Instantly fell in love with the place. While youve captured the look and well put togetherness of the place (as well as highlighting some of its features, what I found most attractive and appealing was the vibe. It felt safe, connected and very friendly. Busy, with more than enough to do without feeling in any way frantic or oppressive. Perfect way to do a large rural town or small city. Im from rural Victoria in Australia and I wish our country towns were put together even 1/2 as good.
And you all should be uber proud of Daktronics - our Stadium one many national and international awards after we finished building it and many of those can be attributed to the quality of those kick arse screens.

I was born in Sioux Falls, 67 years ago. Lived there for 24 years before venturing out to Washington state. Growing up in a town of about 80, 000 population before moving was unique. I can only remember 1 murder happening. I used to ride my bike around the entire city a couple times a week, it was around 15 miles back then. I remember one year we had a blizzard that shut down the city. My brother was a city employee and he and I walked from our rental to where we used to live about 3 miles away(during the blizzard. Then rode snowmobiles around the city. There was a bread truck up by the penitentiary that was completely buried by the snow drifts. What I loved about the city when I lived there was the lack of crime. We lived in the Riverside addition and would go down to the falls to go fishing and swimming. Yes, we used to jump off the falls. The good ole days. Loved Sioux Falls and always will. Thanks for the memories.

Good tour and there is so much more there. One of the reasons I moved to the area is that there is a plethora of activities for just about anyone and any age all through the year. Cultural to Outdoor Campus, a growing MTB and biking community. I also love the Sioux Falls VA program here and as a vet having top world class medicos nearby has been a life saver. All kinds of people too that are into just about anything you want to get involved with. wait a minute, I lied. stay away! :-)

We have visited several of Guy Fiery restaurants in the show, it was always disappointing. We owned the books with the places, and addresses, eventually donated them to charity. It became evident that Fiery had to make it fun, in order to make the show a success.
I have watched all your Dakota videos, all I can say is different strokes for different folks. Why do they steal so many cars in Sioux Falls, crime is crime, one doesn't judge by murders only.

Now I know why it's called Sioux Falls - quite impressive. I've viewed a number of your video tours and gained insights into places I've never been interested in. Also, some cities in North, South Dakota, West Virginia and Kentucky that I've never had a hankerin' to visit I've been favorably impressed and now changed my view through your tours. Maybe I'll check them out for myself.

One thing you seemed to enjoy and a lot of tourists do is walk on the Sioux quartzite near the falls. That stone is two points less dense from a diamond and can be very slippery because if it's density. Every year, a few people die because they into the water and hit their head in the rocks and if hitting your head doesn't kill you, you will certainly drown from the current.

I lived in South Dakota for thirteen years. Always liked Sioux Falls where we would go on shopping trips. My cousins grew up there. I don't ever recall seeing any seedy parts of town when I went to visit friends there. The Big Sioux River has a few good fishing spots if you know where to go. The locals know the good spots.

What a beautiful city Sioux Falls looks. I'm so impressed. Could see myself living there. Looks a nice clean place with plenty going on. Thank you again for this great video. Your commentary is so down to earth and realistic. I love touring America with you both from my armchair in the UK. Best wishes.

Thank you for this video! I’m going to visit a friend in Sioux Falls and am considering living there. I currently live in a crime-ridden overcrowded city that leans very heavily in one direction politically and want out. Sioux Falls seems like a decent place to start a family and settle down.

I lived in SD last year, and Sioux Falls is the cleanest and one of the nicest cities I’ve been to. People have respect for the city and their neighborhoods that most places don’t have. It was a shock coming from the northeast (upstate NY) cities I’m from like Rochester and Syracuse.

what's interesting is especially where you were directly north and west of downtown, and a bit to the east, a lot of those large old homes that aren't in the best shape are actually apartments now, the interiors usually have anywhere from 4-8 units. Rented out cheaply.

I live in Southern California and travel a lot for work. S. Dakota and many other cities are beautiful around the US. However, something about California I can never leave. Has just as much beauty and just so much to do, especially with a family.

One of the least diverse states. NB/ND/SD = very very low crime, affordable living, good & well paid jobs, very low unemployment rate. And there are people on the streets! Don't know if these undeniable facts are correlating somehow

I can’t believe this is considered a city. This is a typical suburb where I live (on the east coast)
Thank you for this video as I am admittedly ignorant of that part of the country it was nice to learn about this

I lived there in the 70s my dad was in the Naval Reserve Center in Souix Falls and it was a fun place to live with lots of stuff to do for kids, I would move back now in a heartbeat because I loved it so much

We are leaving Honolulu, Hawaii after 19 years (originally from California) and can't decide between Omaha, NE or Sioux Falls, SD. These are the final 2 contenders. Really enjoy your videos.

When I pass through Sioux falls with my son I took him to go see falls Park and I was very happy to see that it was clean and beautiful but on every single direction it was just dirty

Run down The place is booming! Their economy is growing faster than just about any other state but they're holding on to their common sense values & resource management skills too.
reply

The whole country is getting run down everything getting built is for the rich and elite! The poor and shrinking middle class is getting forced into poverty and homelessness!

I liked the added Beeping noise added to your commentary it was very 1990s Explicit Lyrics Parental advisory. You should have added to your wife when she had the pottymouth.

I was at Falls Park in Sioux Falls when the city crew was busy applying roundup to native plants growing in and among the rocks and grounds around the falls.

It always hurts going to the falls now because they have lost at least 25% or more of its size from when i was a kid to when i graduated high school

I visited Sioux Falls a couple years ago and i thought it looked like pretty clean city. I live in Indianapolis so not sure how to compare it.

You make traveling easy by visiting place I will never be able to get to. Liked the fried Chicken sandwich along with the Farmhouse Ale.

Played a gig in Sioux Falls in October. gig ended at 9: 00 PM. Afterwards we went out seeking a late supper, and the sidewalks were rolled up! LOL
reply

You should visit the falls when it is flooding. The falls look totally different then. Also come in mid winter when they freeze solid.

Immoral acts Well, it seems like somebody needs to explain to that minister that in fact babies do not come from storks flying in.

I’m from Houston and I love it here, not to big and not to small. Just missing a jack in the box tho lol
reply

How run down is a clickbait title. Sioux Falls is a beautiful, thriving city. You’re better than that.
