DENVER: Homelessness, Crime, Unaffordable Housing - Just How Bad Is It In The Mile High City I live just south of Denver (Littleton. Homelessness has always kinda been a thing in Denver, but lately its spread to the suburbs. You dont have to look hard to find little tent cities in what used to be pristine parks or other open space. Denver itself has become borderline inhospitable. Graffiti and trash everywhere you look. People literally pull to the sides of roads and empty their pickup truck beds of trash right into the gutter. Real estate prices are absolutely out of control. In Denver (and surrounding areas) youre getting literally NO value for your buck. CO is a very overrated place to live in. The weather sucks most of the time, and the whole Denver metro area has a forlorn, dirty look about it. Oh, and the roads are TERRIBLE. Im glad someone finally did a vid like this profiling Denver.

I was born in Denver and raised in Aurora. It was a great, safe suburb. What has happened is that the city has become so expensive that the less affluent people have had to move to Aurora. What used to be a quaint, middle to upper middle class suburb has turned into a slum. I left in the early 80's and moved to Missouri. When we went back to Denver for a high school reunion, my wife was stunned at the trash and the huge number of homeless people. I never thought I would see the day where the midwest would be so much more desirable than my beloved hometown. But I have to admit I like the safety and cleanliness of the suburb I live in now. It is truly sad what has happened to the Queen City of the Rockies.

I learned a valuable lesson years ago. Never give any money to people that panhandle. I pulled out my wallet and they grabbed it and ran. I was unable to go after them because of my bad leg.
Just say NO. The city fathers in Vegas make it a policy to close down these short stop prostitution compliant motels. The most famous one was the Del Mar motel. It was closed down and demolished. It was on the Strip near the STRAT. You must pay the going rate for a full day at all motels and hotels. I wonder if the sculptor that did the bear could come to Vegas and do something for our Convention Authority. Homeless will be gone when winter hits.

Ha Ha! A long time ago in the 70s i was shagging parts and i used to go by colfax n speer, there was a bus a bus stop and there was allways beautiful ladys in stylish dresses sitting there with their legs hiked up. I was buzzing along bout 30 or 40 and being young my neck just got magnetized to that bus stop. I turned around and suddenly realized every one else had stopped. I slammed on the binders and had those tires screaming and luckily hit no one. I glanced in the rear view and those beautiful ladys were laughing their posteriors off, LOL!

This video truly doesn't represent what Denver is like today (July 2023) People say It's not that bad Don't see it every day like I do. And they say it's not as bad as this city or that city don't matter. It's not a competition to see who has the worst city but Ive been here over 20 years and it used to be alot nicer than it is now. I noticed the direction it went after legalizing weed. Gentrification, thhen the pandemic so it's been going downhill for almost 10 years and it's so liberal here, it'll just keep getting worse.

Denver native here. what's happening here in Denver is a nightmare! Growing up here was so different than now.
The areas that you walked through are pretty guarded against the homeless because businesses wouldn't do well with the homeless camps too close.
The homeless camps are being pushed around in the less popular areas, and many parks!
As a native, I'm afraid I won't be able to afford to grow old here in Denver. It's very hard now. Too many people!

Where you took that U-turn at the Carriage Motor Inn 19: 46 (Boston and Colfax, just a few buildings behind it is my father's auto shop that's been open since the 70s. I know that area intimately and will tell you, it's only gotten better. My dad use to stand in the parking lot and watch people shoot at each other in the 90s. Today, as seedy as it is, I'd have no qualms walking down the street.

In my opinion, if you have people doing crimes to survive, those aren't crimes, it's simple survival. Do you think people feel guilty about stealing baby formula for their baby Absolutely not, so why should I be made to feel something about this as well. And when when the crime itself is but the assuaging of a tragedy that has already been perpetrated against my fellow countrypersons

born and raised in denver. i have lived all over the metro area from northglenn to Littleton and from Lakewood to aurora. things have changed so much here. it drives me nuts to see us turning into one of those states that is ruined by people over populating it. we have homeless towns in Denver. where they have tent cities. Sams 3 is local and has a few locations. its just a basic diner.

Beautiful downtown Denver, homeless bums not as bad as in Chicago, LA, Detroit, Cleveland, Wash. DC or any major city in the US. To get rid of these bums is to pick them up and drop them off at one of those decrepit towns of Texas or Florida. Let them fix the house, revive the business that have been loss due to recession or otherwise, need help from habitat for humanity.

I no longer trust crime statistics. Why Because mayors of blue cities are infamous for manipulating those stats. How Easy; they just stop arresting and/or prosecuting the crimes. Another trick Turn felonies into misdemeanors like California did with Petty Theft. Voila, we now have less crime. Such utter bravo sierra.

The level of homeless people is sad and the way people just walk by them like they do not exist.
They are someones Brother , someones Son.
Women selling their bodies is also very sad.
The City is a concrete jungle trying to be modern but the eye can see the suffering , pain and inhumanity of the City.

The whole reason I left Denver was because it was too expensive for one person. The homelessness has gotten worse iwas there about 6 months ago.
A majority of the homeless as far as numbers are in specific areas, near the Rockies stadium and near the Capitol and college complex Colfax and Broadway

Man, I feel like now that I'm in my 20's, all the places to visit are just going down the toilet. It really sucks seeing so many homeless folks. LA, Portland, NOLA, and Denver are some of my top places and you just feel terrible knowing how different it is compared to even 10 years ago.
reply

We've got homeless in Colorado Springs, Pueblo and Trinidad too. The problem is on the rise all along the eastern slope. We even have them in the tiny little towns on the flat lands even though there is nothing for them to survive on. Homelessness is going up everywhere.

Atlanta is 2nd to Denver in elevation. Ladies take care in baking cakes at this high elevation & follow directions on cake box. Atlanta is worse than a nightmare. I drove it daily until retirement. easily adds 3 hrs a day to work day w/out problems. if so count on more. R

Not sure why you think seeing prostitutes would be cool. Nothing cool about it. Most of them are trafficked and abused. Denver seems like it's really gone down hill and it just goes to show what happens when you leigalize a mind warping substance.

The next you are in Colorado please visit this beautiful awesome town called Steamboat Springs the people are so sweet and delightful. It's also the home of Winter Olympic Training. Salt Lake City is a pretty big city now for what I heard.

The homeless in the Denver Metro area build large encampments around highway off ramps and under overpasses. The cities don't police these areas rather Colorado Department Of Transportation. So they don't seem to get shutdown as often.

Visited Denver not so long ago, and I feel like a lot of the Natives really don't have a clue how good they have it. They're a bit overdramatic. Go visit places like L. A or Austin and tell me how bad Denver is. Lol
reply

You didn't walk through the areas that are the worst! Its really bad in other areas. Denver is NOTHING like it used to be just 15 years ago. Thanks for the video but just one or two blocks away is worse or same as Portland.
reply

First of all, I wanna say that I watch all your videos and LOVE them! But just to let you know, as a former Denverite, there IS a huge homeless problem and you missed it by about 4 blocks (north of 16th street mall.

I live in Denver and yes homelessness has gotten much worse but it is definitely not even close to Portland San Francisco or Seattle but the rents are pretty much as expensive. This country looks like shit.
reply

There are tents pitched, you are just in the wrong place. they are EVERYWHERE but not on 16th street because they aren't allowed. Go over to Broadway, pr 20th st, or RINO or S Broadway or Santa Fe. it's BAD!
reply

There was definitely entire camps of homeless in downtown Denver. They started to clean it up in front of the capital. I lived there from 2019-2021 and Denver was dirty asf. Thankfully I lived in the suburbs

Love your videos and you always seem to make me laugh, especially the gentleman’s club comment! Interesting videos and I like how you balance the good with the bad, everywhere you go.

I was in Denver since 2008, it went to hell. Finally moved to a mountain town. Denver is a perfect example of what happens with radical liberal policies. Total hellhole now

Lived in CO for 10 years. When I saw the pothead, welfare community growing, I split for Florida where I bought a 30’ sailboat
Best choice I ever made.
CO is now CA

If you go to the places that do business in the area of shipping and delivery is nasty lots of garbage there and the truck stops very dangerous especially at night.
reply

There are tons of tent cities. You can easily not see them on a quick trip to Denver. But live here and go down certain streets and you'll see a ton of them: (

Denver has problems, but it is nowhere near the highest crime in the nation. Anyone who thinks that need to get out of their bubble and see some other cities.
reply

I love how you explain everything, I feel like I'm traveling with you. The City looks great and not meny homeless, which is really surprising! Thank you.
reply

I am enjoying your videos but you missed it. There are thounds of tents in the city. Oh well, nice try, I guess, for a guy who dont know the city that well.
