MISSISSIPPI: Dirt Poor Towns That Don't Seem Poor At All. In Fact, They Look Beautiful Up till the last couple of years, 500 a week for a household of 2. something in areas of the South was doable when you figure in SNAP/EBT, subsidized housing and access to free health care at least for children. Most states have CHIP programs for adults IF they are willing to pay very little for health care. I dont know what the rates are now after Obamacare and since CHIP programs have been reinstated for those that cant afford Obamacare. Use to be only about 25 bucks for an adult, 35-40 bucks a month for couple. Surprisingly back when I worked with some of these programs, so very few adults were willing to pay even that small amount which at the time was about the amount of a pack of cigarettes per week. I use to tell folks if you could manage to cut down to 6 packs over a week period instead of 7 (pack a day smoker) you could afford the price. Didnt work so well.

Very good video, thank you.
In California, the homeless that are camped on the pavement are just the tip of the iceberg. Thousands more have moved into their cars. They can't leave because (Calif, Florida NYC ect ect) this is where the jobs are. Once you lose your home or apartment it is almost impossible to get off the street and your life begins to fall apart.
Mississippi could offer opportunities. Why are all those stores empty They could become homes. What are the zoning laws

thats because you are seing what we call old money, they make little but thing is most already have tons of money, but for some reason they dont spend it on the building in town they spend it on there houses cars cleaning and farms, and the sign they are not joking my sister lived there, funny thing is you dont see the people but they see you and know you are there, you are what they call a outsider so you want see lots of people.

Many hospitals in these small Mississippi towns (as well as other small towns across the US) are designated as Critical Access Hospitals. These hospitals are located in underserved communities with a lower population density. They receive Federal Grants and higher Medicare reimbursement for hospitalizations.

Some well-kept small towns! My guess is that some folks in those nicer homes in Prentiss might be doctors and administrators who work in the hospital I'm glad that you're showing all sides of these towns and not just trying to show poverty in a sensational way. A well balanced approach.

You do not have to be rich to have a nice, clean yard. A low crime area does not automatically mean a wealthy, white suburb. It means the residents are clean and kind to their neighbors. It's fiat/fake money anyway. These people know the finer things in life are truly free.

The city of Prentiss and Prentiss County which is in Northeast Mississippi are two different places. Some people might get them mixed up. I wish I could rename Jefferson Davis County into Prentiss County and the current Prentiss County could be renamed something else.

Most people in the south live within their means, and take pride in their homes an property, they’re good honest hard working people. Im from Louisiana close to the areas you visited when in the oakdale area just north of it about an hour from there,

i think we must have a house to spend holidays or vacatiom there to taste the life way back from cities and lights, i love to live there as villagers lives their live's and urban area, but rural areas are bit out of choice though.

These Mississippi towns also have a lot of black history & culture. Although I don't like the politics of Mississippi, I would feel comfortable living in one of these towns versus many other small towns throughout America
reply

Reread your statistics on Prentiss. Therein lies your answer as to why the yards & houses are well maintained as compared to statistics of other small towns. Don't mean to be racial, but that's the way it is down here.

Pride doesn't come from money, it comes from the individual. What nice looking little towns. Looks like country living at it's best. I'm sure many make the drive down to Hattiesburg, where my sister lives, for work.

I asked in another of your videos I just watched whether you were still doing cat sightings because I couldn't remember you doing it in recent videos. I guess this video answers that question. Jackpot day for cats!
reply

I'm starting to think the data reported is incorrect, financials under reported or these towns have some kind of subsidization. I couldn't imagine the local tax revenue could support all of that.
reply

you should check out parsons, kansas, lotta abandoned homes, seems like a dying town, stayed there for a week, really close to Picher, OK too, so that would be a good stop on a trip in my opinion.
reply

My girlfriend and I would love to see you cover the James/Younger area of Missouri. Especially the area of Cass County Missouri.
Look up the story of Gun City, and the Kingdom of Amarouge.

reply

Whenever I see these videos I hope you have with you emergency supplies(food, water, spare tire/jack, battery jumper, etc) last thing I would want is to get stuck in some of these places.
reply

Love, your videos. Shows, the Good, the Bad, and ugly. Of the U. S. A. being retired, I would like travel the U. S. A. It’s still on my bucket list. Safe travels.
reply

They may be poor but they're culturally homogeneous and seem to cherish traditional values like respect for yourself, your town, your neighbor and fear of God.
reply

That was a wonderful video Joe, a place many would love to live and raise their kids, P. S. DID THEY HAVE CHICKEN GIZZARDS, i LOVE THEM MY WIFE HATES THEM. LOL
reply

Seems like good people there, love the way they have the American flags along the streets in town, so patriotic and making the best of what they have.
reply

Joe, people with money are moving into these small towns and are working from home. A local job is not needed, hence why some towns are stunning!
reply

Find more place like Prentiss everyone has seen the low income run down places they all look pretty much the same. There’s no wow factor in that
reply

The only downside to all those towns is that they are right in tornado alley. They've been hit by some EF4 twisters.
Oh, JR is Junior Food Mart.

reply
