it trips me out listening to ya talk. I learned of the AT through sevens 2014 thru hiker doc. I knew immediately I was gonna hike the trail. when I talk hiking the trail most people's eyes glaze over and I can tell they don't get why it's so important to me or why having an adventure should be important to them. I always compare hiking a long distance trail to the movie groundhogs day. I lived my life for 17 of my adult years doing the same thing over and over again and I've had enough. it amazes me how so many people think it's crazy to hike the AT but sane to keep repeating the same day over and over again for 30 or more years. my stepfather worked over 40 years with the intent to section hike the AT when he retired. within 3 years of retiring he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. 2 years later he doesn't know who I am. good luck on your pct hike. I'll be looking forward to your videos. thanks for taking the time to share your experiences. watching your videos keep my energy up while I count down the days to my thru hike. makes u a thru hiker and Trail angel all at the same time

Hi Dixie, I've watched you from day 1, it's been educational, emotional, and inspirational. I like going back and watching past videos of prolific thru hikers like yourself, it provides an oppertunity to see your growth through experiance. I appreciate you sharing not just trail tips and tricks, but your insights to your life. Making the decision to leave the comfort and security of the 9-5 for a life of freedom, agility and making your own destiny is called courage. I know you probably didn't see it that way at the time because you were excitedly looking forward to your great adventure, but it was courage none the less. A person as smart as you are undoubtedly have a plan, but please continue to break cover and run toward the uncertain. It will pay off as it already has, maybe not in dollars but in the richness that only comes from bold experiances, expansive views, the people you meet and the trail. Take care, much respect and keep walking every step and seeing it with your own eyes.

I just finished watching every video back to back from the start of your AT trip up to this last one on why you did the AT. I have been to Blue Ridge Georgia and Cades Cove in the Smokeys car camping on a weeks trip twice in the past two years and now have been totally inspired and to change my direction in life because of this series watching you accomplish the AT. Doing a job and not really living for very little return is no way to live. Thank you for sharing this adventure and thank you for the other videos on gear selection and tips for the trip! I am now in the planning phase and purchasing some more gear and looking forward to the trip. Thank you for being such a beautiful soul and an example to follow!

I can totally relate! I am just a few months younger than you and I have massive student debt. I have the job I went to school for, I am married to a good guy, have 2 dog children too, a nice car and a nice house. I'm miserable! I saw your viedos, Darwin's viedos, I read Wild and knew this is what I want to do. I finally told my parents and husband they all think I'm crazy but support me. So I'm gonna do it. I want to tripple crown! I am not financially fluid to do it right now but in just a few years I will. I'm planning, I'm saving, and buying things I can for the trail. Starting my Hiker Box. lol! This is my Cross The Line!

This video might well be the lead-off of the series as it answers a lot of questions. Finding out what you want to do after years of hard work in education and the real world is not the best way to do it. But some people just have to try what they think they like before they know themselves. It's a pity we don't teach what particular careers are really like. Good luck making as much as you might in engineering but as long as you're happy and you make ends meet life is good, as you say.

I've started training to thru-hike the AT next year. I'll be leaving a great job in the nuclear field to pursue this dream, but I'm sure that just like you once I do it I wont look back. I'm wanting to do the thru-hike for charity as well as for my soul. Thank you for putting out these videos, and best of luck with your travels along the PCT. Some things are more important than money.

Its nice to no that its nt just me in the world feelin lost or felt lost abou wa they want to do. Very beautiful inspiring video and ur advice to jus go ou and follow ur dreams. Id love to one day do a tru hike like the PCT or the AT or any long distance hike bu i jus dnt no were to start.

mr. Magoo here, I have watched most of your videos and just playing love you, I have done the first section I got a kidney stone last week when I was going to start. A hike like the AT or even the CDT seems impossible with a wife and kids. those are a little more difficult to set aside, lol. Maybe I can do short 5-7 day hikes over the course of several years to accomplish something like this. I have always had the itch, just not the time.

Goosebumps! Thank you so much for sharing this. I think it has pushed me over an edge I've been scared to step up to. I'm 55. I survived cancer last year and I'll be damned if I'm going to work until I die without living. Go Dixie.
