Did you check out the Zenbivy Quilt Sleep System? I own the original version (when it was a kickstarter project) and now they even have a 10 F version for cold weather. Anyway, check them out! zenbivy. com (and no I am not related to them or the company at all. Just a fan since I am like you and flip around all night when I sleep and really like not feeling like I am trapped)

As a young Scout in the 70s I enjoyed a down quilt over the mummy. My pet peeves. Wanted two sheets folded and sewn (by Mom rest her soul) one for an outside cover and the other an internal liner. Both sewn to the 3 foot opening. I was a cold sleeper and with my advanced heart and circulation issues I am an even colder sleeper today.

I love my Enlightened Equipment Revelation quilt! I'm a warm sleeper so I went with a 30 degree quilt, but my sleeping pad is the Sea to Summit Women's Insulated Comfort Light pad which has an R-value of 3. 9 which should work out fine for a Fall trip to Isle Royale, Porcupine Mountains, or Pictured Rocks.

If you ever decide to go back to a mummy bag consider the Sierra Designs, 20F. Cloud. It has a built in sleeve for your sleeping pad that stabilizes the bag when tossing and turning. No zipper. It is heavier and bulkier, however, and that's usually a deciding factor for me, but it is so much more comfortable to use. I love it.

In your opinion if you could only have one. Would it be more important to have a rain fly or a mosquito net while camping in Oregon?
So far I'm siting on mosquito net because I can always use a different tarp for a rain fly.

Grandma had quilting frame! Every couple years when we'd get new sleeping bags, grandma, mom an kids make up custom sized quilts to fit all our new sleeping bags! Then we'd lay out bag, sew in quilts with long stitches! Need to wash bag, remove wash quit an re-install!

I haven't backpacked in years but looking to get back into it. Years ago they used to make half bags which covered half your body and you utilized your down jacket for they upper half of your body. Have you ever tried this setup?

Not sure if you hiked on the El Camino yet however, you should try the northern route. Better hiking and not travel as much. My wife and I did the el Norte a few years ago and WOW. Then hiked into Portugal down to Porto. Its a wonderful experience. enjoy

I think I would like a quilt bag too. I generally use my current sleeping bags as quilts now. Laying on the zipper can be a pain. I think I'll start looking to replace my current bag with a quilt. Thanks for the information and video.
