if been 9 times on de camino de santiago, 8 times on de frances and 1 time on the via de la plata. never had bedbugs but it happens sometimes, just tel the albergue.
i did meet a few people who did start in italy, sweden, romenia, belgium, the netherlands etc. but most people start at the border in france.
the coper shells you see in the ground in big city's like pamplona, you also can find them in other places in europe to mark place from where people in the old time's started or passed.
i live in belgium (antwerpen) and there are a few shells and there is even a pilgrims albergue where you can sleep and get a stamp. its very small i think 2 or 3 people.
there is a difference in hiking/backpacking in europe and the VS, there are almost no wild places or remote places and almost no places where you can wildcamp.
in europe most trails passes by a village or city every 45 minutes, so no need for a cooking stove etc. just to say hikers/backpackers from europe or the vs look different to hinking/backpacking

My husband and I walked the Camino de Santiago September 2014. To this day, after numerous trips around the world, this has been the most memorable and enjoyable one. We loved the entire hike and to this day we still chat about the people we met, the food we ate, the best and the worst alberques and that we will want to do it again. Would you do the Camino again?

Im finding very mixed answers online. Most people I know that hiked this trail stayed in hostels, hotels and houses. Is it illegal to camp on the Camino or is it just difficult due to the trail running through State owned and Private properties? What percentage of your trip would you say you actually spent in your tent?

Of all the trails I walked in Europe I really wouldn't pick the Camino if you're mostly interested in hiking and nature. I mean, it must be great if you can relate to the spiritual context and all. But just seeing how people have no clue about leave no trace ruined it for me.

The Way portrayed journeys that were much more than a walk set against the Camino. I think older viewers whom have experienced more, and whom have known more people, will have a different experience watching this movie than do young people. Thank you for highlighting it!

I'm really enjoying these film reviews. I re-watched Wild after you reviewed it and now I want to re-watch The Way. Some day I would love to walk it myself and there is a beginning point in to UK near to me now so maybe it will happen sooner rather than later.

Most of the backpacks looked like they were stuffed with shredded foam. Watching the actors put them on and carry them made it seem like none of them weighed much more than the equipment seen strapped to the outside.

Hello there,
Not sure if it has been commented, but how true is the scene were Martin Sheen backpack get stolen. Is it a common occurrence or was it just filmed for the movie.

Like Montana suggested, a bedroll on a pack helps symbolise that someone is a hiker for movies or TV - much like the iconic French stick of bread in groceries.
