Join me as I fly across the country on the United 777-200 in Premium Economy. I did have a pleasant experience on this flight. The seats were very comfortable and the crew was nice. However, the snack and meal service was almost nonexistent, and that really hurt United in this video. -Flight Information- Airline: United Airlines Aircraft: Boeing 777-200ER Registration: N78017 Flight Number: UA554 Flight Time: 5 hours 30 minutes Seat: 22J From: Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) To: Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Date: May 8, 2021
Date: 2023-08-23

I hope you were joking, but you called Continental a little airline? Not at the time of the merger! How old were you when Continental was flying? I flew Continental almost every week between Chicago and LAX in the early 2000s. In the early years, their in-flight service blew United away. And United can thank Continental for their hub in Newark and even for Continentals globe livery! Continental flew B747s for a while, DC-10s, etc. all over the USA, to Europe (I was a frequent passenger to Paris) and the Asia-Pacific region (where they had a hub in Guam) Just like the iconic Pan Am (and other airlines, they were screwed by the government which tried to control the industry with over regulation and then really screwed things up by deregulating while favoring some airlines over other. I miss Continental (and Pan Am)

The rating is too high. You lucked out on a 777 for transcon. The Premium Econ is basically First Class on other narrowbody transcon They are literally the same seat. Without it being the 777, this flight would really suck for the lack of meal for such a long flight. In Asia, they give out a hot meal for 1 hr flight. From the looks of it, United is not spending a dime on the meal, all those are free products from Coke.

11: 54 Wow. I would lose my appetite after seeing all that junk food. United is having significant disruptions with their outsourced flight kitchens around their system. Back in 1995, when United actually operated their own kitchens, the gourmet food was magnificent. I still remember when caviar was served on board. Ok, I'm showing my age: D

Looks like a nice product, disappointing meal service. I was going to try this out later in Sept, but opted to Upgrade to Business. the seat looks sort of narrow? Nice IFE screen. Overall its a nice alternative to main cabin which I hate the 3-4-3 arrangement. Nice review overall, subd ya!

I feel that complimentary meals should be a given on flights longer than 3+ hours on any full service carrier. Not sure why our airlines here have such an issue with that. Anyway great review man, always nice to be on a special livery!

I did 20G and 20A in premium economy between Denver and Chicago on the triple 7 and the bulkhead was super nice though if your in the middle on the isle the curtain separating first and business is bothering on initial climb

Nice trip report! Lucky of you to get a Star Alliance livery 772. I really like UA's IFE, it's interesting that the plane in the map is also in Star Alliance livery. However, the catering service was such a disappointment

Nice video. 777 looks nice, especially for a domestic route. The snack service looked VERY lousy though.
