Second World war: air combats between Allied bombers and Axis fighters - BOEING B-29, B-17, P-38 P-47, P-51 LA-7 B-24 LIBERATOR LANCASTER SPITFIRE HURRICANE against BF-109 BF-110 Messerschmitt ME-262 JUNKERS JU-87 STUKA FOCKE WULF FW-190 MACCHI C-202 ZERO, Germany Italy and Japan vs USA UK USSR and Allied Descriptions of situations and aircraft are taken from original docs Matt: My pepere's b26 was shot down over germany. He escaped Germany and got back to an allied camp with the help of the jews. When he got back his story was crazy. After they dropped their bombs on a brigde his b26 was hit by flak. He was the radio/bombadier. After bailing and parachuting He was found by 2 german soldiers. They shot him and stabbed him twice in the head with a bayonet. He killed them both and took one of their uniforms. His parents were german immigrants to america so he looked and spoke german. He had 2 big scars from bayonet. One above his mouth and the other top of his head. He was also a golden gloves boxer. He died from lung cancer in 1968. Wish i could have met him, he was truly a badass. I would have sat and listened to all his war experiences he wanted to tell. I'm happy he made it back because i wouldn't be here. His name is Ssg Earl k King he recieved purple heart, air medal and 2 olc.

Wow, reading through all the comments on this video. amazing. I apologize to anyone that this might offend because that is not my intent. Everybody, about the descriptions of planes, read the description of the video for the disclaimer and get over it. About Civilian Bombing issue, Don't compare ANY other bombing incident, axis or allied, to fire bombing of Dresden, a non military target that was a hub for refugees trying to escape the invasion from the east, the allies knew that it was packed with civilians, that was the reason for targeting it. The Red Crosses on the roof tops were used as targets. Call it murder, call it terror, It was no accident, no casualty, and should be viewed as a War crime from any and every side. Why do you think the american people were not informed about it for decades? if you call it anything else, than Every airmen that lost their life in this video died in vein, because you learned nothing from it.

I once saw an interview of a WW2 fighter pilot who used to escort bombers in Europe. He said their mission. and their orders. were to escort the bombers, NOT to peel off after enemy fighters. They were to stick close to the formation and intercept incoming enemy fighters. And you could tell that as he related this to the interviewer that it was HARD for them to fight their instinct and not go after the enemy fighters in the distance. I once saw my cat looking out the window at some birds. When a bird came close she would chatter uncontrollably. She was literally hard-wired to attack those birds. And watching the interview of that fighter pilot you got the same impression of him during war time. But this was their discipline. They stuck close and made the enemy pay dearly for attacking their bombers. They took ownership of the formation like a Crew Chief takes a sort of ownership of his assigned aircraft.

There were no B-29s used in the European theater. Also, there are several B-24 Liberators misidentified as a B-17, and the Germans used the weak points in the wing root, combined with the fuel tanks being located there, as a means to quickly down one. The P-38 was used early on, but was quickly transferred to the Pacific, after the advent of the P-51. I not only know my planes, I also know the history of it, from all angles, and I'm still learning. Check out the documentary The Blue nosed bastards of Bodney. Great recant from the pilots who fought it. Also, at 10: 51, it's not the FW-190, it's actually the Me-262. Because it could outrun and out fly the P-51 (it was nearly 100 mp/h FASTER) it had to break off before getting a clear line up. The jet turbine sound gives it away as a jet, not a piston powered German plane.

The comment made at 9: 57 which states, B-17G hit by flak on her 128th mission against civilians struck an odd cord with me. While American bombing raids did kill civilians, the day light precision bombing conducted by the Americans targeted military, industrial and infrastructure assets unlike the British nighttime raids which were more indiscriminate. Furthermore it would have been nearly impossible for any single B-17 to have flown that many missions although I believe a B26 did rack up an amazing 207 missions during the war. Not withstanding the inaccuracies and misidentifications, the aerial combat footage was a testament to the bravery of the air crews from both sides.

I was fortunate enough to have known a pilot who flew all of his missions and returned home, (otherwise I never would have met him, obviously) I used to fix his bicycle for him, we called him four engine Jack and he was close to 80 years old at the time. He told me some stories about flying B-25 Bombers and the whole time he would be talking to me, all I could think about was how fearless this old gentleman must have been, and how lucky I was to be talking to such a hero in person He's been gone over 20 years now, but I'll never forget him

If you click Read more, you are accepting that there are these types of people in the world. So, I'm no expert, but. 1: 50 that's actually a B-17. 4: 01 a B-17. 5: 01 B-24. 5: 13 the Unknown Allied fighter is a Spitfire. 19: 52 is a Hurricane. 22: 30 and 22: 36 are B-17s. 23: 00 is a B-17 again. 24: 08 is a B-24 Mitchell. 24: 47 is a B-25 as well. 26: 29 I actually have no idea. Could be a He 111 or a B-26. 26: 35 B-17. 26: 56 B-17 once more. 28: 05 I don't know, but it's not a B-29. It has only 2 engines.

This video isn't entirely accurate. Most of the aircraft that were attacked. weren't acrually shot down. The jugs were flying TANKS IF you didnt actually SEE it burn in, it likely went home. There were some pretty gruesome flight scenes. And we must give credit, where credit is due. All of the flyboys of wwii had Balls of steel. Some made it home, some didnt. History has proven that the victor. eventually. had to lick his wounds.

as so many men sacrificed on these b-17 devices, liberator, and small aircraft that although practically obsolete or low-tech to fight, still fought and gave their lives in the name of freedom. In spite of their sacrifice, even nations as their people still do not thank them as they deserve, we must all know these survivors and fallen ones who gave their lives and many parts of their bodies for the freedom of the world

Good footage video one note at 5: 02 that bomber was hit by bombs from the bomber above. Watch Air Aces about the Lancaster crew. Amazing story the old gentleman said you dropped bombs knowing that there were planes and crew below that couldn't climb fast enuff but thats war. Had to be done. I believe that was footage from the air raid to the industrial raid by English and USA bombers.
