DISAPPOINTING! 16 Hours in United 777-300ER PREMIUM ECONOMY from Los Angeles to Sydney

What's it like to fly United Ultra Long Haul? Join me as I review the 777-300ER in Premium Plus from Los Angeles to Sydney. Overall, a rather underwhelming experience with United. The service was lacking, food was embarrassing and the delays and cancellations were very frustrating. The seat however, was nice, as were the amenities that United had on offer to Premium Plus passengers. Is it worth the upgrade? Yes, certainly. Not for the service that United offers, but simply for the extra space you have. 16 hours is a long time to be in the air, but this seat was light years ahead of economy. United charged us $399 to upgrade from standard economy to Premium Plus, a great deal considering what airlines charge for premium cabins. -Flight Information- Airline: United Airlines Aircraft: Boeing 777-300ER Registration: N2534U Flight Number: UA839 Flight Time: 16 Hour 05 Minutes Seat: 20L, Premium Plus From: Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) - United States To: Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport (SYD) - Australia Date: Monday, December 20, 2021

I fly about a 100k miles a year with United. This person seems very high maintenance and a bit of a princess. If you did your research you would know what to expect for meals. As for the flight attendants treat them with respect and you might get some back. Every international flight I have ever been on there has always been at least one real shit passenger. Oh my god, there is no chicken left? I am writing a letter to your airline! Premium Economy gets you a little more room and free beer/wine. If you take away anything from this, respect your flight attendant and crew. No I am not with any airline. I just fly a lot.

Nice review and video. I'm heading off to Australia at the end of September. We're taking Fiji Airways though. We do get a break in flying with a 2. 5 hour stop. Meals are a tough one when flying especially at night. I don't want dinner Midnight or 1 a. m. Let me sleep or come by later with food. As for the sandwich, they should keep those in the galley and if you want one, they should just have you go back and ask. That way, they don't have to wake up anyone. The breakfasts are designed to be light. I don't eat Chobani yogurt so that's a waste of food.

Just FYI--That is NOT the domestic United seat in Business/First on their coast to coast legs, as their seats have been lie flat seats (for an additional fee or upgrade with points) for almost a decade now. The comp upgrade list does not apply for Mileage Plus Status members on these routes.
The seat shown herein is, however, very nice! As LAX--SYD is the longest leg one can fly, I would prefer to lie flat and get some sleep. But this looks like a good compromise if the price difference is a lot, for those who are budget sensitive.

They accommodated you on the flight cancellation during the Global pandemic while themselves having financial struggles, and you complain about breakfast? My advice: Grow up! Learn to appreciate things then you wont sound like entitled sour grape! That is some world class service in my view for what they did under what situation they are in. Hey if some your friend in financial trouble cooked you a meal, and you complain the meal was a disappointment because they didnt presented well? You are the ass!

Thanks for another awesome trip report, Sam! Sorry to hear about the cancellation and missing a day of your trip but at least they put you in a hotel where you hopefully did some spotting
!
Its nice that you showed the comparison of UAs breakfast to QFs, hopefully UA improves with this. Other than that, they seem like a pretty cool airline, despite their reputation. I, for one, look forward to trying them out again sometime.

The US airlines are - by far - the worst of all 1st world countries, plus many from 3rd world, like Ethiopian. Food, customer service, space, everything is despicable. an still United want to charge more than Qatar, Emirates under the premiss they are from USA as if this would be a statement of superiority. Want to have your money worth, never fly with an airline from USA.

This video is awful. So you state that the seat is comfortable, it has more room and recliner with leg rest. It's the equivalent of domestic first class. Then you give it a bad review and say DISSAPPOINTING IN ALL CAPS in the title because of your eggs? This video sucks, this review sucks. I can't believe it has so many likes.

In 2015 I flew with United from London to Chicago. I expected over the top service but I was very disappointed. My seat cushion to seat on was broken and sliding out easily. The plane looked like it was from the 90s. I am very skeptical about flying with United again. Nothing was memorable about that flight

I just flew United Premium Plus Newark-Brussels and, several months before that, Newark-Milan. For the price, the service was outstanding. Priority lines for check-in, better food (I dont choose airlines based on the food, tbh, and most important, way more comfortable seats. Idk, maybe Im just not that picky.

United Airlines has a new fee of $25 if you book your flight over the phone with a United agent. The tickets cost a lot of money these days and you need to be careful. If you want to be careful because the ticketing is so tricky, and talk to someone in person, being careful like that will now cost you $25.

I took a similar flight to Sidney on their 747. It was awful. The plane had a shared screen and we all had to watch the same movie. This was around 2015, not 1980. People were lying on the floor and no one could walk around. I swear I was getting bed sores from sitting so long in Premium, economy.

Its a decent seat. Lots of leg room. I had to take this plane recently on a 16 hour. Flights are really quite overpriced right now. I used to fly business a lot but prices are just killer. Even when I use miles its a pain to use so much more than I used to

Flying any US carrier is always going to be disappointing if you have previously travelled on some of the Middle Eastern and Asian airlines.
Air NZ and Qantas are not too bad and still way ahead of US carriers too.
There is just no comparison.

I would never fly U. S. domestic airline for international travel. They served the same cheap garbage foods as in domestic. They service also sucked. My favorite is Cathay, Singapore, Eva, Lufthansa, or even British airway.

A lot of fluff before getting to the actual point of the video - the flight. Desperately requires editing. I don't get what was disappointing about the flight. I thought UA handled the cancelation well.
reply

Wait, why do you go up to SFO before dipping down south to head to Australia? Was the jet stream particularly strong that day? Although, I know the Jetstream goes from West to East, so I'm still confused.
reply

Im a bit confused about the system at LAX, how do international and domestic flights occur within the same terminals without partitions. Cause T1-8 are mostly domestic flights.

American airline carriers used to provide a good service, but now their services have declined a lot. Therefore, i rather fly other carriers either asian or european.

The most important factor for me is the amount of seat recline, which I don't believe was mentioned in the video. How many degrees of recline do these seat offer?
reply

I think people need to lower their expectations for PE. It's still just ECONOMY, premium or not. You get what you pay for. If you want better everything, fly business.
reply

I am sorry to say this, your flight and accommodations looked fantastic. The only somewhat bad thing was the breakfast. Still I have too call you out, Karen.
reply

Sadly the meal service in business is just as dismal. If I have to fly United I just tell myself that Im paying for the seat comfort alone. The rest is trash

These bax-tards are never happy. They will post negative reviews just to get views. You cant take these cry babies seriously. Fook you and your fake reviews.

If this is your idea of disappointing, you should try Philippines Airlines sometime. They have elevated the disappointing passenger experience to an art form.

I have been served cold breakfast on united before as well. It turns out, they forgot to heat it up. I was wondering why sausage and eggs are cold
