Join me as I review the Delta A350-900 in economy class from Sydney to Los Angeles. Delta completely surpassed my expectations. The A350 economy seat is very comfortable. It helped that the plane was 20% full but still a nice seat. The crew were super attentive, very warm, and keen to help in any way they could. The food was some of the best Ive had in economy. Portions were a bit small, but I guess thats just a quality over quantity type thing. Snacks and drinks were available in the galley throughout the flight. Amenities included, pillow, blanket, headphones, and amenities kit. -Edit- Final grade for Delta should have been 66/70! -Flight Information- Airline: Delta Air Lines Aircraft: Airbus A350-900 Registration: N513DZ Flight Number: DL40 Flight Time: 14 Hour 45 Minutes Seat: 46J, Economy Class From: Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport (SYD) - Australia To: Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) - United States Date: Saturday, January 1, 2022

JAL at least used to run a 777-300ER on what amounts to a positioning flight from NRT-KIX (it flew overseas from KIX, back overseas to NRT, then to KIX to do it again. I flew it once and I counted five people on the entire plane. On a 777-300ER. That, after already having flown a 14 hour flight from JFK-NRT, was easily the weirdest flight I've ever been on, between my tiredness and the fact that it felt like I was on a ghost plane. I couldn't see another passenger even if I stood up and looked around. It did mean my wife and I had a personal flight attendant, though, which was cool.

Thanks for this video! I will be flying this route next February and March. I just sprung a little extra money for Comfort plus seats It was $149 extra each way but based on how my 63 year old body handled last months flight from London home to the USA at just 9 hours in economy I think it will be worth it for the extra legroom and recline. The recline is supposed to be double that of economy.

The food was horrific, I dont know why youre impressed. Its a 14 hour flight. For lunch you didnt even get any sides like a bread roll or cheese and crackers, like majority of airlines will give you. Breakfast was lousy and a cheap pizza roll for a midflight snack? Yeah, not impressive at all. Even United has better economy catering than this

Awesome, I took the same flight in the reverse direction in late 2021. Also mainly empty. Delta is surely the best of the US carriers flying to Australia, and I'd say the A350 with its spacious cabin and amenities is the best plane for the trip. Better than the A380 and B787.

That was an awesome flight. I once flew like that from LAX- AMS. There is nothing wrong with economy if you have 3 or 4 chairs LMAO.
Do have to say that I particularly like Delta One suites on the A350. That was one of the best flights I ever had

Hi there - love the video - you said they set up a snack basket - for you to help yourself. I have flew 5 - 6 time s to the USA and never had the nerve or balls to ask for extra water or snacks. Is that something that happens alot and they let you do?

Refusing to wear a mask is a RIGHT! The science is clear that masking even in an enclosed space is not healthy for anyone. But the leftists treat it like virtue signaling. Might as well refer to it as an emotional support mask LOL

Thanks for the vid. I'll tell ya, I would have slept like a baby knowing I saved over $1K rather than paying full boat over premium economy and I still got to sleep in a lie-flat position. Great choice of flights, IMO.

Whaaaaaa? Empty! Wait, let me see how much I have in my bank accounts. Let me see if I can help Delta out.

Yeah, Delta'll have to wait; sorry, no can do at the moment.
I said sorry.

I can't image a 20percent full cabin. Nice. I'm flying from Atlanta, GA to Johannesburg, South Africa later this summer. 16 hours of fun. I will be in the same economy class on my trip. But it's already almost full.

I was on a flight like this once. Lufthansa 747 Frankfort to San Fransico only about 100 people on board. I had an entire row to myself. I laid down in the middle section and had a pretty good night.

Fantastic video, such a shame you had to fly to Sydney just so you could choose from a different carrier that flies to the U. S hopefully United will be back flying into Melbourne soon.

Being 6ft 6 i find that Delta offers the best space for us on the taller end of the Gene pool. Its always embarrassing when i kick people or hog the leg space. I always feel soo bad lol

Always surprises me why they don't just upgrade Economy passengers to Premium or Business Class (assuming there are free seats) when the aircraft is as empty as this appears to be.

LOVE flying on empty planes, although I feel sad for the company trying to operate without money coming in to pay for that fancy plane. Hope things go better for the airlines.
reply

With a flight that empty, I would request a seat forward of the engines. ie ask the flight steward. It's much quieter than sitting aft of the engines and hence better sleep.
reply

Why do airlines bother to operate a flight that empty? Is there some sort of requirement airlines fly certain routes, no matter how few passengers are on the flight?
reply

lol, giving that food a 10/10 is a joke. Just because you had even worse on your prior flight doesn't change anything about the trash you were served on this flight.
reply

North American airlines are sheer crap and the food they serve onboard is typical of the junk food Americans eat every day

Thank you for this video. I have plans in November to go to Sydney on Delta. This gave me a look as to what to expect.

Great video as always. Listening to Delta announcements was wondering, Is the mask mandate in planes truly a federal law?
reply

The food looks awful. This seems like the kind of food one would get in prison. This is why I never eat airplane food.
reply

How would you compare Delta with American on this particular route because American also flies between LAX and SYD?
